This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Infections from beyond

Some time ago we've been (as a party of multiverse travelers) visiting a certain world. We did our business there and left the place, only to return some time later, what translates to "a few hundred years of local time". To our surprise, the world, once full of life was now one giant graveyard. Pretty much every man and every animal was dead. Suspecting a side-quest of sorts, we tried to research the events that led to the global pandemic. Details aren't very important but it turned out that it was of external origin. Well, shit happens, we moved on, no brighter than before.

Imagine our surprise when it happened once more. After a prolonged and in-depth research, combined with quite an engaging albeit a bit short mini-adventure, we finally learned what happened. It was us.

See, our party traveled across worlds, not only in the borders of same universe, but beyond it. During one of our voyages we brought a disease with us. It was harmless to our PCs, but introduced to different ecosystem, it turned to be both deadly and incurable.

We're dealing with it on our own, so no help needed here, thank you, but here's a question: does such an event resemble anything to you? Is there some game, or perhaps an adventure/campaign that deals with same theme, same threat? I'm asking, because once we faced it, it sounds reasonable, like something so obvious that everyone should know about such a threat. After all, real world is no stranger to it - we have been introducing non-native animals, insects or plants to some secluded ecosystem and it sometimes backfired. Yet, I must admit that during my decades of play I didn't hear about such a subplot.

So, did you ever brought something from beyond, that resulted with outbreak on a mass scale? How did it went? Were your characters crucified by local folk, or idolized as sort of Riders of Apocalypse? Did they attempt to help conquering the disease, or perhaps fled and never spoke about it anymore?

Spoiler

It all happened during our LoGS campaign, but I don't think its any important: pretty much every SF setting might face similar danger.

Sound reasonable?  Sure.

Here's a link to an SCP where it did happen, and the cure helped but caused its own world-ending problems.

I like the smell of Keter-class SCPs in the evening. ;)
