This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone know anything about this game?

Blood and Bronze by Olav Nygård and Johan Nordinge.

I bought it on Lulu on a whim, waiting for it to arrive, just wondered if anyone knew anything about it.

sounds interesting. Look forward to seeing your review.

I've seen this on Lulu.  Interested to see what you think, or anyone that stops by here.

I looked over the preview pages, and it comes across more as a 1990s D&D heart-breaker than something from the OSR (though that's not always a clear distinction). Lots of D&Disms like "saving throws", as well as things stolen from other games (like a dice pool for skills), and a few twists (endurance is essentially hit points, and it's apparently affected by encumbrance). The roles of the referee and players are very traditional. Mentions Clark Aston Smith and Howard (plus Gustave Flaubert) as inspirations, as well as the "peplum" film genre (sword & sandal).

Cool art. Worth clicking on the preview just to see the gate.

I'm quite interested, but am I reading the page count right? 68 pages seems especially slim for a complete RPG.

That's just about the perfect length for me, but it seems a little pricey for the page count.  I probably wouldn't have gotten it without a Lulu discount code.

I got word that it has shipped, so should be here in a few days, when I can give more info.

I got my copy.

It's interesting in an old-school flavor, with some nice elements and all-too-little background/setting info.

On a system matter, I am wondering if I am just reading the armor rules wrong or if they're really that ridiculously ill-thought out.

I've got my copy, just been slow reading with the holidays. Class based, similar to D&D in that it has ability/attribute scores that give modifiers, but differs in an interesting way in that you use both the score itself  (for saves) and the modifier (for skill challenges).

I've gotten through the class descriptions. Each has its own starting equipment, special abilities/skills/spells. Classes are Mercenary (fighter), Rogue  (thief), Desert Farer (nomad/desert ranger), Courtesan  (bard), Mystic (magic user), and Seer (another magic user).

And I agree about the setting, I like light settings that leave room to add your own touch, but this one is a little too sparse.

The author is selling the core and first adventure for 50% to celebrate the game turning six months old, and if you contact him after the purchase, he will throw in the pdfs for free. Plus with the current coupon of APRSHIP50, you can get free mail or 50% ground shipping.

Just figured I'd let people know in case anyone else was thinking about getting it, but was on the fence due to the price. At $12.50 for both books (and possibly free shipping), I figured it was worth taking a chance on.

I'm OG (Original Gamer) enough that 68 pages seems just about right for an RPG.  $12.50 for Core and first adventure in print and PDF is worth taking a chance on.

Talk to the authors as mentioned here.  They'll send you a complimentary pdf if you bought the print version.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar
