Pretty cheap on Amazon.

Looks like it.

There was a 70's paperback edition with an exquisite Boris Vellejo ass...um, I mean cover:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I've always found it funny that the characters are always overdressed on the covers of Mars books.  Six square inches of cloth is just way too much.

Funny, I have a paperback that puts the same ass on the cover for the second book in the Witch World series:D!

I was never that moved by Boris. I'm much more of a Roy Krenkel guy... and the Gino D'Achille covers.

I've always been more a Frazetta man when it comes to John Carter and Barsoom:

So many of my favourite covers in this thread:D!

Frazetta is pretty much the shit, when it comes to barsoom or what ever fantasy genre you have going. (Even rock music! :))

Trigger warning please. His aliens are oversexualised and pander to the transmartian gaze.
You can shake your fists at the sky. You can do a rain dance. You can ignore the clouds completely. But none of them move the clouds.

Quote from: Simlasa;841749I generally avoid licensed games... I always end up feeling strapped down by canon and fan expectations.
My experience with Star Wars was people just trying to play out the events of the movies, which was lame.
Much more fun to create a custom not-Star Wars that leaves all the ends open.

I can't speak to the other FFG stuff, but I've quite been enjoying Edge of the Empire.  Not the deepest system, but the "double success system" actually adds a lot of "I have a bad feeling about this" without some mechanic where you accept points or something, it's all on the dice.  Played in a reasonable length game that was unfortunately canceled by a move, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Plus they hid away all the rules for making Jedi in other books, so your players can't just make copies of Luke.

Anyway, hmmm.  I have this system on "I want to give this a try, but I don't want to spend money for it".

To be honest, Barsoom was never my scene.  Loved "Space: 1889" though.

I'd prefer an "Allan Quatermain" RPG.

There's this:

That said, an exploration book would be a great addition to Call of Cthulhu, along with a book focusing on cryptid-hunting for the Royal Geographical Society at the turn of the century.

I have a copy of that, somewhere. My favourite thing about it was opening the box to discover two large fold-out maps - one of Maasailand, one of Abyssinia - both mostly blank.

Huh. Interesting, because its from 15 years ago but I'd never even heard of it.
