This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Your favorite D&D city?

Just make your fuckin\' guy and roll the dice, you pricks. Focus on what\'s interesting, not what gives you the biggest randomly generated virtual penis.  -- J Arcane

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Quote from: pspahn;829612Tuypo 1 it ain't even about you, it's about common courtesy, and having said that I probably should have taken my own advice and PMd Shipyard Locked rather than get belligerent with someone I don't even know on a public forum. Especially since he was gracious enough to come back with a mature response and now I feel like a dick. But that's what happens when you haven't slept and you read something in the middle of the night that rubs you the wrong way...
Fair enough.
If your having tier problems i feel bad for you son i got 99 problems but caster supremacy aint 1.

Apology\'s if there is no punctuation in the above post its probably my autism making me forget.

Because this forum is entirely a written medium: all we have to judge people on is what they present in writing ... eloquence, word choices, command of grammar and punctuation, presentation.  Something that looks like a first-grader wrote it is the forum equivalent of smelling bad and dressing funny.

I understand if you don't care: there are a lot of folks out there who don't care about bathing regularly, either.  (What does that matter, after all?  It's not like you can smell how much you reek after a few days.)

But the reason we have social conventions is so people can rub together with a minimum of fuss and trouble.  This Saturday, my wife and I are renewing our vows for our tenth anniversary, in our church, with our minister, and family and friends.  I'm wearing my tux.  To get up there wearing cut-offs and flipflops would be deeply disrespectful to the ceremony, to our church and to our guests, and they'd think worse of me for doing it: in our culture, formal religious ceremonies are celebrated by dressing in a formal fashion.

No one here will force you to use proper spelling, capitalization or grammar.  But some will automatically think the worse of you for not caring to use them, and not just here, but anywhere else in your life where you use the written word.  (As to that, going through life not giving a damn about social conventions generally will bite you in the ass, repeatedly.)  If that doesn't bother you, sure, whatever.
This was a cool site, until it became an echo chamber for whiners screeching about how the "Evul SJWs are TAKING OVAH!!!" every time any RPG book included a non-"traditional" NPC or concept, or their MAGA peeners got in a twist. You're in luck, drama queens: the Taliban is hiring.

Either Sigil or Waterdeep. I've used both extensively, and both are a ton of fun.

Quote from: Weru;829400Specularum from the Grand Duchy of Karameikos. No map, about a paragraph write up in the back of the Cook/Marsh Expert rulebook. That's the only official D&D setting city I've ran games in. Never ran, played in, read, or even seen any of the others.

I mentioned that old city once, and somebody next to me piped up and said, "Isn't that a name for something at an OB-GYN?"

After the laughter had died down, I said "That's a speculum. S-P-E-C-U-L-U-M. Not Specularum."

As for my favorite, I'd have to say Specularum too, because it was the home base for one of my longer running campaigns.

...How could I forget that haven of scum and villainy.  I had the first box set, and I bought the Dragon Magazine with Skullport detailed in it!  OK, I have to revise my choices.

Ebberon's Sharn.

Forgotten Realms Skullport

With Waterdeep and Menzoberranzan (Which I also had the box set of) are third and fourth respectively.

To address the OP (love that IGN button), hm.  I'm tolerably partial to Calimport, myself.

It is and isn't.  It's technically not a D&D city, despite that it was redone FOR D&D (1e, I believe) and was done spectacularly.

On the flip side. My least favorites were:
Threshold in BECMI. Luckily missed that totally till much much later.
and.
Neverwinter in FR. Didnt like the king. Didnt like the people. Didnt like the naming convention, as ever. Something about that one place just kept rubbing me the wrong way.
