This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hi all! I'm new to this forum. Curious to see if there are any of you who have run a campaign using the Fall from Heaven dark fantasy setting. Personally it's my favorite. I'm also curious to find any more hidden gems out there. What's your favorite unpublished setting?

The Butcher

Welcome to the site!

Not sure what you mean by "unpublished setting" -- you mean homebrews?

Arkansan

Do you mean home brew settings that are posted online but not formally published?

B. Chaos

I mean fantasy settings that aren't published for D&D. Like the setting I use, Fall from Heaven, is a fantasy setting of a Civ4 mod. Generally any fantasy setting out there but hasn't been published for D&D, but may or may not have been published in a different form.

Arkansan

Oh then it's hard to name a favorite. I really like the setting for the game Avernum: Escape from the Pit.

I also think there is a good setting in the Diablo games if it were a bit more fleshed out.

RPGPundit

Well.. for the next little while, my favorite would be Dark Albion: The Rose War...but its category is soon to change..

I have also used a civilization mod, though mine is from civ 2. It's called the fall of the Kraekian empire or something like that, fairly typical fantasy, but I esn a pbp with it for a couple of years

I know nothing about Avernum or Dark Albion, but those sound like something worth looking into.

@Technomancer: If you're a fellow civver, have you tried Kael's mod (FfH)? Personally, CiV never compared to Civ4 for me, mainly because there was no mod that had so many great features and replayability.

If you like Avernum, try the Avadon games (also from Spiderweb).  Decent fantasy setting to use as a backdrop

I haven't played since Civ 2, although I did play the hell out of it back in the day.  Many times I started playing early afternoon and when I finally managed to tear my eyes from the screen the house would be pitch black.

Another one I always wanted to use for an rpg setting was War of the Realm, another fairly standard fantasy setting, including the obligatory more advanced mysterious ancient culture whose ruins still dot the land.

I would be interested in a setting from the Dark Border novels, by Paul Zimmer. I find the world fascinating.

That introductory fiction needed a novel.  It could have been the Bored of the Rings of Roleplaying games.

Well, you should get a chance fairly soon, when it comes to Dark Albion.  Meanwhile, check out "The RPGPundit's forum" on this site, one of the stickied threads there outlines all the info I released from the campaign before I started working on the book as a commercial product.

Golarion? Glorantha? Tekumel? All unpublished by this odd definition...

Although in recent times I've been enjoying Shores of Korantia for RQ6.
