This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Make me a recommendation please

I am looking for a new gaming supplement, something to get the juices flowing. I have roughly 20 bucks to blow so something in that range or under, something in PDF format so that I can download it and not wait on the post.

I'm not particular to genre to much but I would be interested in some cool OSR stuff I may not be aware of or have missed over the years. I'm looking for something with a good bit of DM utility.

For US $13, you can grab Geographica. Its a 256 page setting book for Atlantis, but is complete in and of itself as a cultured and rich S&S world akin to Howard's Hyrboria. Not only do you get the entire setting but over 100 very cool plot hooks from around the world that could be used in any fantasy RPG.

The book is recent but it's a revision of the 80s classic from the Arcanum trilogy.

Cool, certainly seems to be a lot of bang for the buck.

Frandor's Keep is basically a rehash of Keep on the Borderlands. It's good, but it's been done several times before (Return to the Keep on the Borderlands, Little Keep on the Borderlands, and now that).

I would suggest Anomalous Subsurface Environment 1. Part setting/part dungeon. The dungeon isn't that great, but the setting part is genius. I think it might only be on Lulu.

And I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it's on sale for $10, the Islands of Purple Haunted Putrescence has a lot of gonzo ideas, some stupid, but most usable.

Cool thanks for another interesting recommendation. I went ahead and ordered the d30 Sandbox Companion and DM Companion, but I still may grab something else as well and the setting there is certainly interesting looking.

Seconded if you're into silly, gonzo science fantasy D&D. Great stuff.

Troll around Kickstarter. That's where I have been finding the most interesting gaming stuff for a while.

If you want some fun OSR stuff, my best "buy" has been free. Check out Mazes & Minotaurs and the huge amount of free PDFs.

But if money is burning a hole in your pocket, then consider The Random Esoteric Creature Generator For Classic Fantasy Role Playing Games And Their Modern Simulacra by James Raggi IV...

Looking at dollars per hour of use, the RECG has been my best OSR buy.

Monster Island

Its runequest 6, sandbox, tons of ideas, great setting, heavy zothique, clark ashton smith vibe, where the corrupt decadent sorcerors are serpentmen, the barbarians are tribal lizardmen, and the 'civilised' humies are colonists clinging to a corner of the island, who may just push the island into catastrophe by accidentally awakening the tribal gods...

That sounds awesome, I might just pick that up myself!

Monster Island is awesome. I am using it in my Atlantis game :)
