This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Unfortunately, while he has that stack of 4e books still on his shelf, anything he produces will probably be complete and total shit. ;) At least we might get some new cool Greyhawk maps out of the deal.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

As he is the co-author with Mike Mearls of the 5e PHB and MM, I think it will be pretty good ;)

I really don't get it, it would be like getting excited over someone writing a new Conan novel.

Even if they got a good author and did it right, it still wouldn't be Conan.

And yet Thomas' Savage Sword of Conan, Milius' Conan the Barbarian and Busiek's Conan run were all things worth getting excited about.

Yet a Conan movie by Ute Boll would not.

The last thing we need is Greyhawk being separated into two worlds, Grey and Hawk that have been smashed together and overlap giving us Beholderborn and Illithidkin, with Hextor and Hieroneous killing each other and having their portfolios being stolen by Iuz who, as Hextoroneiuz, is now the God of half of everything, and a transmedia event, the Tedium of Tharizdun, in which Oerth explodes into a series of inter dimensional islands, until we find out the whole thing was just a practical joke by Zagyg, and things will be reset for the next edition.

The fact that they...
1. Actually possess the Gazetteer and
2. Appear to be actually reading it.
...does bode well, but it's hard to have anything other then a healthy dose of skepticism after the last 14 years of Realms shenanigans.

Personally I think anyone who was responsible for stuff like Skeletons taking normal damage from slashing and piercing and double from blunt, shouldn't go anywhere near Nerull, Tharizdun, Iuz, etc...  Let the Realms be the easymode setting.

Edit: Maybe Perkins is responsible for all the cool parts,of 5e, :idunno:.

Wonder if they're going to "reboot" Greyhawk.

If I recognised one of such existing, I might agree. Next you will be telling me that there was two more Matrix movies after the first or a Dredd movie starring Rob Reiner or something ;)

That's fair comment. I will begin worrying about that after the product is actually announced though. At this early stage, I am happy just to be excited by the prospect :)

I'd probably prefer a Classic Reprint than a Newer and Betterer Updateder Greyhawk.

I bruised my lower ribs laughing at this.

If they're smart they'll stick pretty tightly to the TSR boxed set.  I could see redoing the map as a single sheet, that would be nice.

But yeah, forget Greyhawk Wars and anything not by Gygax.  Possibly allude to some Gord the Rogue lore but maybe not.  The point would be to stay as close to a map to explore with a few notes as possible.  So what would I fill the book with?  Well, maps of major cities would be nice.  At least put a map of the City of Greyhawk in there.  A book full of maps with notes.  Take a look at The Palladium Fantasy Roleplaying Game Book 2 for how pared down it should be.  But with nicer art for the maps of course.

I just hope we get a map sheet as big, heavy-stock and brightly colored as the one that came with Gazeteer. I'm sick of paying 50 bucks for hardcover books filled with blibber-blabber I don't want to read and shitty little computer generated maps.

I wouldn't hold my breath over this.  They haven't even announced a setting book for the Forgotten Realms yet.  I'd bet they are just redoing a Greyhawk module again - probably ToEE.
