This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, just really noticed that my PHB stinks to high heaven... This is the first time I've spent any length of time with it open in front of me while making a character. I noticed that I was getting a little light headed and slightly queasy from it...

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just mine?

It's no Fiend Folio stank, but it is definitely turning my stomach...

My PHB smelled as well, though it got fainter with time. Something in the paper/ink?

Scott Anderson

It's performance art, enjoy the stank.
With no fanfare, the stone giant turned to his son and said, "That\'s why you never build a castle in a swamp."

Mine also fine. Maybe a poll would have been good.

It has a mild 'newly printed' smell, but nothing really unusual.
This forum is great in that the moderators aren\'t jack-booted fascists.

Unfortunately, this forum is filled with total a-holes, including a bunch of rape culture enabling dillholes.

So embracing the \'no X is better than bad X,\' I\'m out of here. If you need to find me I\'m sure you can.

I didn't know how to do Polls...

It isn't a new book smell. IT smells like bad glue or something. Its fairly strong, and has made the drawer I keep it in stink as well. I noticed the smell when I first got it, but today is the first day I put together that it was making me slightly ill. I think its gotten stronger since I got it, not weaker...

I haven't noticed anything, but I live in a fairly arid area, so that might also have something to do with it.

Mine smells like a new book, and it is fairly humid here.

It could very well be moisture or something being spilled during shipping causing the issue. If leaving it in a drawer makes it stink more, letting it air would be a good thing to try next.

Monster Manuel

I love the smell. I actually checked to make sure it smelled like a new book when I got it. Mine is very faint, but it's there.

Smells like nostalgia.
Proud Graduate of Parallel University.

The Mosaic Oracle is on sale now. It\'s a raw, open-sourced game design Toolk/Kit based on Lurianic Kabbalah and Lambda Calculus that uses English key words to build statements. If you can tell stories, you can make it work. It fits on one page. Wait for future games if you want something basic; an implementation called Wonders and Worldlings is coming soon.

Omega

Mine did too.
It smelled of fresh glue and ink. After a week its aired out pretty good.

Its been mentioned a few times on RPGG as well so it is not an isolated thing. Ine person got theirs poorly glued and its coming apart so we suggested that they get ahold of WOTC CS and see if they will replace.

I suspect they were rushed off the presses really fast.

Imp

Truly, if there is a just and good God, this thread will become an epic 50-page edition war over which Players Handbook smelled the worst.

Mostlyjoe

Put it in a big zip lock with rice. Let sit for 12 hours.
