This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Useful Cursed Items?

Quote from: soltakss;758081Surely, that's a blessed item, not a cursed one.

Depends hugely on just how you are using the word 'repetitive' :)

Cursed weapons that return to the user can be great when you are captured and disarmed.

Of course said cursed item might have been the reason you were captured and disarmed in the first place. aheh.

Also a cursed item you havent yet activated and locked on you would be a great "gift" for an enemy. "Here. Take this sword and leave us alone!" and you know the rest.

In my DCC game there were also cursed collars which allowed the person wearing them (they can't be removed) to be traced by the person who owns the controlling pendant.  This could also be used to some advantage in some circumstances.

Glancing through the Next playtest got me thinking of the following.

The Berserker path for the Barbarian has a trick where if you miss, you get an extra attack that round. A cursed weapon -1 or -2 could be seen as semi useful to such a character.

Or a really crazy twist. Take the Fighter perk that allowed you to do damage even if you miss. And arm him with a appropriate weapon that makes him always miss.

RPGPundit

Jesus, another good reason to hate the "you do damage even if you miss" mechanic.  But still, that would only be 'beneficial' if you did as much or more damage missing than you would hitting...

Heh, the runtiest halfling fighter becomes a cuisinart of dual wielding cursed dagger death!

The infamous Girdle of Gender Change is only "cursed" if you are happy with your current body. For some characters, those things are blessings.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

I sense a new Pathfinder adventure path.

In my own RPG we had crystals that forced race/species change. Mostly employed by nations where certain species were treated as property with no rights.

Though one race had theirs as a program to force repopulation after a war.

One player used one to change into a species that her pursuers saw as useless and so they left in disgust and she went her merry way. This had a secondary later benefit as there were wanted posters in a city for her... and now she was some other species.

Was this a one use deal? Was it random or could you pick or something in between?

Specific race or species to each one.
Use depended on the type. Slavers had special multi use ones. Trapped one shot ones could be found in treasures, primed to discharge when picked up and held for a short time.

Dispells and curse removal would not counter it. You needed a specific counterstone to cancel it out. and those were few and far between as the secret of making the changestones was heavily guarded since theyd loose their effectiveness if the counter was easily availible.

A fairly lengthy quest ended up happening as players worked to do exactly that. One for altruistic reasons, the other because the didnt want to be stuck in that form the rest of her life.

In my DCC campaign, I have a group of wizards called the Azure Order, whose members are all magic-users with some kind of gender issues (either from wild magic, curses, corruptions, or by choice).  They have a stockpile of Brassieres of Femininity (and, one would presume Jockstraps of Masculinity or something like that, though it has not yet been explicitly stated).
