This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Preferred statblock for swarms

I'm in the process of writing Unnatural Swarms, and I'm torn as to how to present it.  I can't settle on a monster stat block format to showcase each set of stats.  I have three options open to me, and I'm willing to hear more.

To start off, I hereby present the Bullet Bug swarm.  Here's the general info and abilities, which are the same regardless of the stat block.

Bullet Bug Swarm
Bullet Bugs resemble a horde of hollow-point bullets, each with eight legs and two antennae. Their chittering resembles the sound of firearms being cocked and loaded.  The wounds left by their burrowing are indistinguishable from gunshot wounds; many of their victims may have been passed off as mundane homicides.

Vermin: A bullet bug swarm is immune to mind-affecting attacks.

Burrow (Ex):  Rather than automatically dealing damage like a regular swarm, bullet bugs only deal damage if they manage to successfully burrow into the bodies of their victims.  Every creature in the same area as the bullet bug swarm must make a Reflex save (DC 15) to prevent any bugs from being able to burrow.  On a failed save, one bug manages to burrow inside the creature, inflicting 1d3 points of Constitution damage each round.  This effect is cumulative; every time the creature fails a Reflex save, the Constitution damage per round increased by 1d3.  This damage continues even if the creature leaves the area occupied by the swarm; it can only be halted by surgically removing the bullet bugs, requiring a Surgery check (DC 15) for each burrowed bullet bug.

Resistance to Massive Damage (Ex): A bullet bug swarm gains a +5 species bonus on Fortitude saves to negate the effects of massive damage.

Darkvision (Ex): A bullet bug swarm can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and the bugs can function with no light at all.

So, which of these three do you prefer?  Or do you have another format that looks/reads much nicer than any of these?

BOZ

i prefer the middle, but that's probably just because i've spent so much time using it. :D
don't quote me on that.  :)

The last one is cleanest and easiest to read for me.

BOZ

to me it looks disjointed, but then see my previous post.  :)

It is disjointed; I think it's intentional for better organization and reading in combat.

I've decided to go with #3, based on feedback here and from another messageboard.  It's organized with a recognizable logic, and I can split the four sections into a 2x2 arrangement to fit better on a page.
