Quote from: BedrockBrendan;665061Isn't there a British tv show where zombies are just kind of like regular people? ( I have seen ads on BBC America for it).

Quote from: One Horse Town;665058Yeah, it is sorta taking the piss out of twilight, i think.

The lucid zombie thing is quite old - Bob in Day of the Dead, although he can't speak, is probably the first on film in modern times that i can think of.

There's also Colin and Falling Apart to name a couple more recent (ish) films to have the zombies being lucid. There's also one about zombie cops that i can't remember the name of.

Anyhoo, it isn't uncommon on film at the moment, which is why i said i understand the timing of the game and why it isn't exactly trend-setting.

There was a Japanese film called Junk, where there was one lucid zombie who could control others. She was also stronger than the regular ones. IIRC, there was one in the Day of the Dead.

You could all ready make lucid zombies in AFMBE (the rules for that were in the ZM screen, then in Enter the Zombie), so it's not like it hasn't been done before (maybe not as it's own game). Wasn't there intelligent zombies in The Everlasting rpg as well?

Quote from: One Horse Town;665000The Zombie movie has become it's own genre over the last 4 or 5 years really. Within the last year or two, the zombie as protagonist has even become a niche in the genre. Shit, British and French tv have had recent series based on the zombie as returnee/misunderstood teen etc.

Doesn't make it fun, but i can understand given his previous work at WW as to why this is being undertaken and even the timing of it.

One thing it isn't though, is trend-setting.

"Underwater nazi zombies" is a zombie sub-genre, too. (Ala "Shockwaves", "Oasis of the Dead" and a few others I can't remember the titles of.)

I don't want to play games of those, either.

Some of Fulci's early 1980s zombie movies - I'm thinking here of the thematic trilogy City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, and The House By the Cemetary - are unquestionably accepted in the zombie canon and present what sometimes appear to be non-comedic lucid zombies. (I understand that Fulci actually wanted to make the films in question as ghost stories, but on the strength of his work on Zombi 2 found that he could have an easier time getting funding if he pitched them as zombie movies, so he turned the ghosts into zombies but kept their powers and motivations intact.)

On the other hand, I don't actually get a Fulci vibe from this project.

On the other other hand, the Return of the Living Dead series included lucid zombies from film 1 ("send more cops!"), and I could see this game working well for a Return-style splatterpunk slapstick game.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Quote from: One Horse Town;665071Yup. Although not exactly brain-boxes they have rudimentary intelligence, it seems.

There's also Burial Ground, a bizarre Italian flick where the zombies use garden tools to try to break into a building and hook someone out of an upstairs window with a scythe.

Damn, i know too many zombie flicks...

I quite enjoyed Zombie Honeymoon. The zombie's lucidness is waning in this one.

I know of at least two games about zombie lucidness: Hunger: Zombies Must Feed (Precis Intermedia) and Shambles (A Terrible Idea). AFAIK both stay clear of becoming too serious or pretentious.

Yeah, Nazi zombies is another sub-genre - Dead Snow, Outpost, Edit: The Keep! (got it at last) to name but a tiny few.

I miss the original, voodoo zombies.

These are just vampires who eat flesh instead of drink blood.

That's why they were originally referred to as "ghouls" rather than "zombies" iirc. Since that's roughly what they are.

Also see: I Am Legend, for vampires who are pretty much horror movie zombies except less gross. I Am Legend + Day of the Triffids = zombie apocalypse, even though neither features zombies or ghouls. Also the 48 Days Later movie wich is Day of the Triffids with pseudo-zombies (well insane berserk people who are that way due to an extremely contagious blood disease).

So this is essentially World of Darkness: Zombie: The Rotting, right?

Also,

Zombie Genre: The Boring-ing

That's Not A Real Letter In Your Name: The Pretentiousness-ing.

I'm so meh about this I can't even be arsed to come up with a halfway witty post.
Obvious troll is obvious. RIP, Bill.

That's my reaction too really.

I mean zombies are kinda fun as antagonists every now and then but playing one? I'd rather play a triffid.

Yeah, it's pretty uninteresting, rather far-fetched *and* pretentious.

Sounds like WoD in general to me.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

I'd put that on the back of my book.

"You've never experienced anything quite like Bump-chips" sounds very much like something I'd expect to hear from a creepy pedobear uncle.

anyways, wish Mark "howGuhrman-am-I?" the best, but I really don't find zombies interesting. No interest in playing one, even a superhero pseudo-WoD one.

James Gillen

At least Vampires have that "better than life" factor.  Zombies are slow, covered with rotting sores, bloated with gas and can only think about feeding themselves.  I don't need to imagine that, I AM that.
