This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Drohem;662788I had some good conversation while waiting in line and then talking at the RPG rack with some other patrons.  All in all, a good experience was had by me this morning. :)

Yeah, that's a pretty awesome store.  The only downside to it that I know of is it's at 120th street and I live off of 8th... it's really just too far for regularly going to.

What escalated quickly?  We're all talking about the cool experiences we had getting free stuff yesterday, mostly.

Call me confused too.

Went by Dragon's Lair in Austin. They had a table set up as you walked in with all the free stuff on it. Encouraged you to take whatever you wanted. I picked up about 7 items that looked to be of interest.

Noticed about a half dozen groups playing Free RPG day adventures (Pathfinder and Star Wars mostly, I think.) The store was pretty crowded (and their new store is very large.)

Bought a new set of Fudge Dice and a copy of 'Don't Rest Your Head' that I've been meaning to grab for awhile.

Very nice.

Quote from: jeff37923;662775Just got back from Free RPG Day and had a blast there. I picked up We Be Goblins Too and the FFG Star Wars offering Shadows of a Black Sun. The Mongoose Traveller demo was such a smashing success that two guys at the table both ordered the game through the store (which was offering a 20% discount on all games and orders). Didn't even get to either FFG or d6 Star Wars demo, because they both got eclipsed by Mongoose Traveller. Only ran into one annoying catpissman there. On a sour note, one of my gaming buddies got into a car accident while getting some food and had to leave early to handle the results of that.

That sucks about the car accident.  Hopefully that didn't cause too big of a problem.

From some people who played the Pathfinder entry, they said it was just "okay", not the nine shades of awesome that people who played the original "We Be Goblins" described that adventure.  I perused the adventure and figured that if you played it straight up it might not be the most exciting, but if you played your Goblin PC as strictly over-the-top crazy you'd probably get more out of the adventure.

What I did find interesting was the C&C adventure, how they angled it in such a way that the adventure was a starting point for a much larger campaign.  Considering that
Spoiler
the PCs can be responsible for unleashing a lich in the surrounding area
the straightforward and potentially light adventure could take a much darker turn.  Curiosity killed the cat and all that.

But Necromancy can bring it back!  Zombie kitten!

Sorry, feeling a little odd today. :)

More on topic, I think the module's wide open for all sorts of goblin hijinx.  First there's a competition to see who gets to be chieftan.  Then there's a commando-style raid by big-headed pipsqueaks against an army of fire breathing boars, and finally a boss fight with an ogre with manliness (ogreness) issues.

Especially since one of the premade character's life goals is pretty much to blow everything up.

True, but if you play it pretty straight up, it's going to go flat.  The module pretty much begs for a completely over-the-top game.

I agree here. The goblin modules are designed for the over-the-top lunatic glee goblin style of Golarion and by playing that way, you get the most out of them. It is written that way because zany goblins are a signature artifact of Paizo and Pathfinder, so it helps to advertise the product line. So any modules with goblins as the stars just about demands a three drink minimum.

I was too busy to grab anything else, but now wish I would have grabbed the C&C and LotFP modules just to take a look at them.
"Meh."

Quote from: flyerfan1991;662750Pickings were a bit slim at Yotta Quest, and I noted that both the Shadowrun and Lamentations offerings were completely gone, and there were only one left of all save for the Paizo offering.

Heh, in case of the LotFP-book not so much gone, as banned from the shop. Crazy stuff.
Running: Call of Cthulhu
Playing: Mainly boardgames

(Well, that's a bit unfair, I'm pretty sure there'd be people bitching about this in Poland too).
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Considering the owner never mentioned either the boycott or the banning to me at all, I'm a bit surprised.

I should also mention that LotFP was available at the store prior to Free RPG Day, so you'd think that if there were issues with the game it would have been removed a while ago.

What I meant was that Free RPG day escalated quickly; the level of quality of free product seems to me to have gone up exponentially this year compared to last.

OK, I wasn't sure what you meant either, but now that you've clarified I have to agree with you; the LotFP offering alone, Better Than Any Man, is a truly an amazing product for free. :)
