This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My big focus is running Sertorius playtests, followed by a Doctor Who campaign I started. If I have time, or when I finish Doctor Who, will run Savage World Ravenloft.

Quote from: Benoist;613538(4) Finish the mega-dungeon guidelines and shape them into a comprehensive, usable, ergonomic work. When everything is said and done, that there are good templates for various parts of a mega-dungeon game and the campaign around it, I'll gather everything into a PDF or some such that people will be able to download, use, abuse, to their hearts' content.
Yay! Looking forward to seeing that.

I'm going to be running a 2e game via PbP, playing in a Tunnels & Trolls chat game, and possibly reviving the 2e PbP I put on hiatus a couple of months ago.

Along with a few friends, I'm kicking around ideas for an episodic format game based on the idea of an Afterworld of Abruptly Abandoned Avatars, basically a place where all RPG characters go when the game they're in unexpectedly ends. We're still debating which rules system would be easiest, given that the PCs are all over the map as far as levels and systems go. It's looking like GURPS or something rules-light, possibly with multiple DMs and PCs rotating through for different episodes.

Seven RPG games I look forward to running in 2013

1. New Battlestar Galactica - Fate Core maybe using Diaspora
The continued trials and tribulations of the Battlestar Atlantica, BSG-84 fleeing from the Cyclon Tyranny with a rag-tag fleet of the last human refugees and rebel cylons.

2. Novus Roma - 0D&D
Set in the very ancient world of Falchodas on a distant star. Where the Giants and Dragons once summoned men to be their servants, new thriving colonies of lost Romans and Egyptians have made a new home and vie for control, and dominance, in this mystical fantasy setting far from the rest of humanity.

3. The Lost Fleet - Stars Without Number
A star fleet is dispatched to a rich distant outpost on Uritius to quell a revolt. The fleet vanishes, the players are tasked with investigating, and they are sent with a reinforced strike force to hold back any conceived threat.

4. The Lost City of Heminhati - Arrows of Indra
The recently located archaic scroll of Anilhavda tells the story of the ancient city of Heminhati, of how Bibaaya and Ashya, the devotees of Krishna, fought the demons of Asura. It is sung, that even Kali herself came to claim the Janaata (the common people) of Heminhati but the valor and leaderships of the fraternal twins, Bibaaya and Ashya, held the Asura at the gates of the city for almost two full moons and allowed the people to flee. The city fell, and was lost from the memory of men as the peoples of Heminhati fled North over the Himalayas. Now, two thousand years later, the scroll of Anilhavda has been found. It contains an encrypted map, shows the way to Heminhati, and the Nizam of Vivdipaya is organizing an expedition.

5. Atlantis - 0D&D
An elite seal team journeys via submarine to a secret mission rendevous only to discover they made a one-way journey to the lost continent of Atlantis. Will they find a way home? Will they survive the perils of the Lost World?

6. The Glaive of the Dragon Rider - 3x D&D (Eberron)
One of the players is mistaken for an infamous thief, and the hunt is on!

7. Eden's Gate - Fudge/Fate Core (Pulp/Biblical Epic/Steampunk game set in the 1930's)
An Epic Adventure for Terra Incognita

Chicago Police Inspector Thompsons’ report to NAGS society members.

“The body of Charles Woodruff, Professor of Archaeology and fellow member of the National Archaeological, Geographic, and Submarine society was discovered earlier today at his Woodlawn Avenue University residence, close to Washington Park. Professor Woodruff specialized in Middle Eastern Archaeology and Prehistory, with a specific interest in ancient Egyptian, Sumerian, Babylonian, and Hebrew cultures. The following pertinent facts are available for your perusal...”
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

I am planning on finishing my Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe conversion of the World of Greyhawk. Aside from that, continue to enjoy the two campaigns that I am playing in.

#36
CSI Waterdeep: My "started with a joke, became unexpectedly successful" episodic campaign centered on an elite team of investigators ("If you spot peril call for the Guard") around Waterdeep and surrounding lands.

In my pocket I'm still keeping my Doctor Who-like campaign set in Planescape. My dream is stll a playthrough of Par delà les Montagnes Hallucinées; one can only hope.

Meanwhile my newly-promoted DM friend just guided us through the introductory adventure of Pathfinder's Beginners Box, and I already hear her working with hammer, nails and blowtorch on her first personal project. Can't wait :D
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

Gamedaddy, I really like those blurbs.

(They remind me of the fun I had when reading the Gen Con Programme Brochure, year after year. I took great inspiration from the event listings, especially the oriental AD&D campaign Siriwardana and the Renaissance super hero game Four Colors Al Fresco).
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

RPGPundit

My main concern is to see Arrows of Indra get published.

Aside from that, in my own personal gaming, I want for each of my campaigns (Albion, Arrows of Indra, and ICONS Golden Age) to continue successfully, probably throughout the coming year.

Benoist, do you think about a PoD version? (Lulu? RPGnow?)

•Get Sci-Fi Beta Kappa out there, and playtest Where The Heart Is loads more.
•Play some FATE, Savage Worlds and Cortex.
•Garner some solid GMing experience- build up a range of scenarios that can be whipped out as and when.
•Attend Furnace (a UK con that regularly tops the polls) and Origins.
•Finally get to play Mouse Guard and Jaws of the Six Serpents.
•Find all my blog's cylinders and get it firing on them.
•Do more reading around RPGs and roleplaying in general.
•Clone myself so I can follow all the forums I'm on (though I guess each clone would have to have their own laptop- ok, not such a good idea).
•Try to ensure I don't have all the same resolutions next year as this one.
Sausage rolls, but bacon rocks!

APN

  • Finish my 3 year Superhero play by post campaign (using VERY houseruled Golden Heroes/Squadron UK rules - they don't stand up well with high power campaigns otherwise)

  • Finish my T&T/D&D homage sort of clone and start a play by post game with it. Aims are ease and speed of use, including lightning fast character creation and combat, and rolling for magic use success.

  • Turn said clone to other genres - Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon pulp Rocketships and Rayguns, Supers, space opera, mad max road warrior game, crimson skies alike alternate rpg/flight sim, dark ages Britain/end of roman empire crossed with a magic gate that has fantasy creatures and low magic 'pre arthurian' age, a dune knockoff, star wars knockoff, blade runner hunting rogue androids... in other words fling a load of shit and see what sticks to the wall.

  • run a star wars game set in the force unleashed setting

  • reading more game books to shamelessly copy/steal/borrow great ideas from people who are better at this sort of thing (writing games) than I am

  • knuckle down to learn how to draw pictures that don't make my (or anyone elses) eyes bleed. Finally concede the fact that I'm no Larry Elmore, so concentrate less on the details and more on functional.

  • come up with a 2nd edition of Marvel Universe RPG (Diceless version) that players of the game can agree improves the game. Will be researching all other diceless games and seeing how they do stuff.

Some of that stuff will never be done, but the intention is there.
