This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Riddle me this - is it "roleplaying game" or "role-playing game"?

No thanks.

i'll use both equally, but i guess for "RPG" to work it should be "role-playing game" (or no hyphen?).

Originally the word had a hyphen, but over time it's starting to lose it. If you favor conservative use of language, use the hyphen. If you don't care, lose it.

This is almost as fun as arguing "face-up" vs. "face up" with one editor of that CCG I work for.
Perforce, the antithesis of weal.

Since the hyphen is the transitional form between two words and one word, you can almost never go wrong with the hyphen.

Meh, I have more important things to worry about but if forced I'm with Endless Flight. :)

I tend to write it without the hyphen. "Role playing game."

Though from my (very brief) research, any of the three forms are acceptable. In generaly, the rule of thumb is to pick one form and be consistent with it. So if you are writing a rule book or supplement or otherwise, you should be consistent with the particular form you use.

For whatever reason I've just assumed that role-playing game was correct.

... and why is that?
You got a problem with "Improv"? You don't like "Games" only like "Stories"?
