Quote from: jeff37923;524392So why can't you do this with LEGOs and Mekton?

Oh wait, that's right! Then you don't have to give money to Vince Baker for it.

Actually, at this point you don't, since they're releasing it under Creative Commons once it's finished.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

I visited the kickstarter page but I didn't realize it was using the ransom model.

It was based on a goal that wasn't even in the original rewards-- it wouldn't be set for CC if they didn't hit some amount, I forget what it was.  But they hit it a while ago and so the game will be free to distribute online.

Sort of an after-the-fact thing because they were surprised at how fast it took off, even before any game blogs picked it up.

America amazes me in positive ways. Still some of that enterpreneurial spirit left, hats off. All German projects I saw had a social-democratic stick up their ass.

BTW, RIFTS Lemuria is funded! Lemuria, do you hear?

I heard that Chris Engle once had a slightly mean thought about a kitten, and was involved in some sort of relationship drama at one time. Ban this sick filth, etc.

4e could be described as a story-skirmish game, the way some are making sense of it, anyway.

Quote from: two_fishes;524529Someone really ought to start some kind of betting pool, maybe on RPGnet or someplace, to put money on how many posts pass between the first mention of Vincent Baker's name at this site and the inevitable reference to neck-raping.

He earned it the hard way, you know. We simply give credit where credit is due.

Quote from: jeff37923;524474Go fuck yourself, the main selling point for Vince Baker's KIckstarter project is not the rules but the LEGO mech designs - so it isn't like he is a genius game designer here. Especially not with the "doomsday clock" rule he referenced.
Didn't you just finish saying that the only reason people were paying money for this was because it was Vince Baker?  And now it's because of the Lego designs!  Is it too much to ask you to keep your shit straight, you inbred white-trash cuntscab?

QuoteAnd as far as Janus Publications go (who originally published Jovian Chronicles ), Jovian Chronicles was originally a licensed campaign setting for Mekton II that came out in 1987 and whose success (along with that of the Mekton II centric Mecha Press magazine) had allowed the financial foundation to be established for them to reincorporate as Dream Pod 9 and put out their own SilCore version of Jovian Chronicles and Heavy Gear. So, no, I didn't bitch when it first came out.
Why not?  DP9 actually owed some of its success to Mekton II... unlike Vince Baker.  But boo-hoo, Vince Baker is neckraping the dead corpse of Mekton with his new game, even though it has zero to do with it other than having mecha.

(And I don't know that Mecha Press was "Mekton II-centric" given how much content it had for other games, like Seventh Street Games' old Mecha! wargame, not to mention the predominance of non-game-oriented material.)

QuoteI can also say that I am unafraid of being branded one of a "chorus of whining cunts" because a game designer's reputation does not preclude them from criticism.
Especially when that criticism is butthurt horseshit motivated solely by personal animus and without a whit of objective validity, as you are so amply demonstrating here.  Fuck, if you want to get your hate-on for Vince Baker why not try bitching about actual problems with the game, like its unseemly fetish for gobs of dice?

It's good that you don't mind wearing the title, though, because right now you are acting the superlative Whining Cunt.

Kudos to VB! Clearly Kickstarter is the way to go with new games.

The mech designs look awesome and the game sounds interesting. I am interested in learning more about this doomsday clock mechanic.

BTW, Palladium wanted to get $12k for Lemuria and got $30k instead and the only advertising they did was their forums, Facebook and their newsletter.

Quote from: Benoist;5246754e could be described as a story-skirmish game,

Which would also describe every other RPG.

I've run WFRP for WFB guys who never played RPGs and "skirmish battles with stories" exactly how they viewed the experience of RPGs. And I am pretty sure that's the experience minis players had in the early 70s with Dave and Gary.

Awww, did I piss you off?

(Besides, I am very well-bred white-trash cuntscab. Get it right!)

Yeah, I guess I really did piss you off. Go me!

Reread the magazines. If you have to, count the number of articles dedicated to the different mecha games. Mekton is the clear leader there, which is only obvious because the game emulated the anime mecha genre the best.

Seems you don't like Vince Baker's talents as a game designer here either and are engaging in "butthurt horseshit motivated solely by personal animus". So much for "objective validity".

I'm honest enough to cop to my whining, are you?

Watching the mental contortions people will twist themselves into as they attempt to justify Come and Get It as a narrative control mechanic is one of the funniest things about die-hard 4-nards.
