This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I was typing on my phone...but I agree.  RanDOOM describes my play style nicely!

Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.

I wouldn't allow child-rape in my games by any player, but I think it's a great way to show just how evil sorcerers are. This kind of stuff is hinted at in many pulp stories, and actually happened in the Middle East way back in antiquity. Hell, it's comparable to what happens when a city is captured during a war, even up to this day (see Africa).

Child rape happens everywhere and not just in the countries or situations you mentioned.

Don't be silly David, it's just muslims and darkies.

Sort of back on track, i pointed out in a thread about Carcosa a ways back that it just takes a paragraph or two to explain how depraved these rituals are - not blow by blow accounts for each individual ritual/spell. What GM or player really needs to know you need 3 virgins for the invocation of the carrot and only 2 for greater doorknob of doom?

Exactly. I had a PM conversation with The Good Assyrian (same thread I think) who said pretty much the same thing. I assumed there was going to be an edited version put out because from what I've heard it's a pretty cool setting except for the blow by blow accounts.

I'm sorry I didn't make a huge list of every time child rape happens in the world. Next time I'll try harder.

Aos

1. I own the original version and I like it.
2. I only read like one of the rituals and I got the idea, but I don't have a problem with the others being there and i get the logic behind why they are.
3. Every thread expressing outrage re the rituals sells copies of the book.

I doubt it.

I hope so. Like I said, I hear it's a cool setting. I'm sure people who do get the book will disregard stuff they find objectionable (for whatever reason) just like I do with certain games.

True.

I'm not outraged by this one ( i reserve that for another game i'm sure you're aware of). I just think it's unnecessary. If i read that these rituals include sacrifice and other naughty things in a few paragraphs of explanation, that's enough really. From that explanation i can tell the players exactly what's involved and how many people they have to save without having each ritual's shopping list of depravity to tick off.

Yeah, I'm pretty steamed about GURPS as well.

I get where you're coming from. I kind of agree with both sides of this particular argument really (those who want the shopping list and those who don't) the logic supporting  both positions is, imo, solid, and I think it largely comes down to taste.

Well, that's it really. I haven't seen an argument from the shopping list group that goes beyond calling the non-shopping list group prudes or attempting censorship or something (which is ridiculous, i don't think anyone has called for quashing free-speech or censoring or whatever else pansy liberals like to shout about). I've yet to see a cogent argument for why the shopping list is necessary beyond some nebulous 'fuck you and your prudish ways!'

I'm not accusing you of any of the above.

I prefer shopping lists, though I think that the overemphasis on intricate murder is the result of a paucity of imagination.
