This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm not even having a go at you; if it was presented well I would give you money for it.

+1. It's a cool thread and a pretty unique universe you got going, Pundit. Team up med mrG (for atmosphere, tabels and other good stuff) and a good illustrator and I think you got a hit on ya hands. At least, I'd buy it.
Running: Call of Cthulhu
Playing: Mainly boardgames

Thank you, guys. I'd need to find someone who'd want to do that, to do the editing/publishing.

Quote from: NiTessine;495555Well, here's my (admittedly very biased) two thousand words on Carcosa: http://nitessine.wordpress.com/2011/12/16/review-carcosa/

For the tl;dr, it's cool and atmospheric and weird, with dinosaur-riding barbarians and Space Aliens with rayguns and made-up primary colours and the Great Cthulhu.

You forgot the ritual child rape/sacrifice. Barbarians, space aliens, and child rape/sacrifice.

No, I just neglected to mention those. There's a lot of content in the book and copypasting the index on a forum would be just strange behaviour, you know?

Seriously, that's a rather small part of the book and one I do not see getting a lot in the way of playtime. I mean, I can see a situation where a PC sorcerer finally breaks down, kisses his humanity goodbye and performs a ritual to call up something horrendous, ostensibly in the name of the greater good or whatever rationalization helps him sleep at night, but it's not gonna be one of those.

It may be physically a small part of the book, but I don't think you can just "neglect to mention" it, particularly with its history online and the apparent obsession with the subject on the part of the creator.  You're basically saying "the magic system" is a small part of the book, or the fact that it has one of the only two classes going around raping and murdering children for magic power does not seem to me like a small thing.

They're raping and murdering children 30% of the time tops, the rest of the time they're raping and murdering adults.

Happy Hanukkah!
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

So folks haven't picked up on the morality feedback loop in the carcosa rules as written?
Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

The question we really need to ask ourselves is...How are the gnomes involved?

No, see, gnomes murder people. They don't go around raping anyone, including children.  That's the difference between a normal RPG and one that was written by a particularly creepy lawncrapper.

I actually really like Carcosa.  I find the rape/murder thing to be a show of how messed up power is...I want to run a game where the PCs need to learn a fucked up ritual in order to stop a sorceror from doing it.

I also really like the randoom dice mechanic, since I like gonzo randomness in my games.
