This is my first attempt to start a play-by-post so hopefully I am doing this correctly. Looking to start a game for Servants of Gaius (which I am developing), a Roman mystery/investigation setting. Will give everyone a a file of the rules and character sheets. Plan on doing rolls by the honor system. Hope to make a 1/day post. Anyone interested feel free to post here or contact me via PM.

Because this is my first attempt I am limiting it 3-4 players for right now (just until I get the hang of how this works).

The basic premise of the campaign is the PCs are recruited into the Servants of Gaius, a secret order that protects the emperor and roots out an insidious threat against the empire called the Cult of Neptune. Characters can be from one of five classes: Senator, Equestrian, Plebian, Peregrini (non-romans/latins), and Slave.

I am interested.
:)
Invisible Castle works great for d.roll...

PS:
In reply to the recent PM...I have 2 versions of the Doc.
did not receive any with building diagrams or maps.
I am planning to run the playtest this coming weekend with the second version.
credit S.A.G.E. for playtesting.
Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Running: AD&D 2nd. ed.

Cool. Once we get one or two more we can start. Feel free to hash out character concepts in this thread.

S.A.G.E. Credited in latest doc (i will send that to you-tweaked the poisoning skill and a couple of weapons). No diagrams or maps yet. This is just the manuscript, our artist won't begin doing maps, borders, etc until December when the doc hoes to layout--we have an awesome logo though.

For this campaign we will be using maps based on Pomponius Mela's stuff (who was active in the period). These are a little different. Not a familiar map of the Roman world but pretty cool.

Bedrockbrendan

Cool. I will send you guys both the rules and Character sheets. The only sections that you really need to look at are the intro, character creation (more as a reference beyond the first few pages) and the equipment chapter. However I am happy to walk you through the basics as well.

I want to join please Brendan. I am not posting very much at the moment due to my cluster headaches, but they will pass... I'm hoping at the very latest in the nest week, and then I will be back in better form. I REALLY wanna play SoG, but have not yet had the opportunity I'd hoped for over irc, so this would be a great. Please please :)

You can definitely join. I will send you the latest doc.

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;487367I was thinking we could give character creation a week if that works for everyone. So actual play would start on Monday the 7th.

Sounds good...will start hashing it out tonight as I read the new doc.!
:)

will post general idea here so we don't all make up similar PC's (highly unlikely but one never knows!).

I think I'm going to play a Senator. A lesser son of the Piso gens, maybe.

Excellent. That is an interesting line. Gaius Calpernius Piso is the current governor of Africa. Gnaeus Calpernius Piso was embroiled in controversy following the death of Germanicus (there were rumors he poisoned him, possibly at the order of Tiberius) and subsequently committed suicide in 20 AD.

Benoist

I would be related to Gnaeus Calpurnius Piso. I'm thinking even one of the sons of Plancina, who would somehow try to get over the disaster his direct family went through and redeem the honor of his father by being the man he never was.

Isn't Lucius Vitellius the Elder governor in 38? It's okay if you just placed a Piso there instead, I don't mean to step on your toes, and I'm completely cool with this sort of thing. :)

That works great. Plancina had Livia's protection so that probably was enough to keep you from being Tarnished by your father's name. If you like, you can take the Dishonored Vice (which is exactly for this type of situation), it basically gives you a -1d10 to your Auctoritas rolls. You don't have to take it though, as you could be in good enough standing that there is no real mechanical effect. Also if you are a Senator we will have to hash out your Enemy.
