This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

40k + Tony Wong

Ghost Whistler

I'm bored. So I started wondering what a setting that's a cross between 40k and Tony Wong (the creator of weapons of the gods - fantasy kung fu) inspired wuxia would be like. What do you think it would be like?
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Absolutely ridiculous.
Possibly awesome.

Been there, done that, much awesome.   My buddy ran a one-shot con game of Feng Shui 40k.   I had a Sister of Battle who mowed done dozens of tyranids and went one-on-one chainsword battle with a Tyranid psi-warrior.

Just invert the "Grim" into "Psycho-Gonzo" and you're doing it right.

Spike

I was going to say... are you sure you aren't already doing it?  Look at the size of those guns, man!!!

I cannot wait for Blackhand to find this thread.

:D

Anyway, with that said...Rogue Trader was pretty gonzo to begin with.  Plus, you have to embrace the fact that the imperial controlled sectors of the galaxy covers an inconceivably large number of worlds, with a population in the hundreds of billions, possibly hundreds of trillions of humans.

A lot (most) of these people are born, live, and die without ever hearing about wars, genestealers, chaos, etc.  Just middlin' through their mundane lives, peacefully, then the big dirt nap, the end.

"In the grim future, there is only war...if you happen to be where a war is going on, then, yeah, there's only war.  Otherwise, there's pretty much everything else."

The point I'm making is: it's a gigantic galaxy.  Who says xyz thing or culture or events can't happen?  Just don't get caught spraypainting graffiti on hive-world alleyway walls and you're good.

I'm not thinking 40k specifically, but something like it. A vast intergalactic entity ruled by an immortal emperor + wirework! Zu: Warriors of Magic Imperium. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Daemon.

Heh. You do know this is getting even more similar to my wuxia game. How about yours?

It would have absurdly huge guns, a non-functional system, and the fashionistas at rpg.net would still try to claim its "deep".

My first thought was Battle for the Planets/G-Force/Space Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.

I think once you add the Wuxia, you lose the Dark. However you can keep the big guns and gothic trappings all the same.
