This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

ENWorld paywall?

So, I must have missed something.

I don't often go to the ENWorld forums, however, when I tried to do so today, I discovered that you apparently can't even view the threads anymore without an account?  Is the whole site now behind a paywall?

The value of the $3/month subscriber fee has never seemed like a value to me, irregardless of how much 3rd party d20/D&D crap they use to try and sweeten the deal.

I don't pay, just have a free login, and can see the threads/post on the forums.

Now that said, as soon as you want to do anything beyond that, like say... use the Search function, you gotta pay, man. You gotta pay.

Do you think they will allow me to use my traditional forum name?

HA! Good question. I have no idea. It's supposed to be a "grandma safe" environment, though.

Poor granny. I bet she'll suffocate in this far too crammed, dark, unlit safe.

Yeah, ENWorld picked some really bizarre features to charge for.  I would pay the $3 a month if they would fucking change the goddamn colour scheme to something readable, however.

White on black?  What are you guys, 14?  Are we in danger of having a shitty emo poem forum in the near future?
If you read the above post, you owe me $20 for tutoring fees

I'm all for a "grandma safe" environment as long as its based on my semi-psychotic grandma.  I still remember the conversation from last year discussing how her neighbor had helped out a very elderly woman grandma didn't like (keeping in mind grandma herself is 80): "If it were me, I would have shoved the old bitch's head in a toilet and kept it down there 'till she drowned."

Ahh, memories...
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

Exactly what I do. I wouldn't be on EnWorld at all, ever, otherwise.

LOL Our elders often find poetic ways to express their feelings about the world around them. Or in other words: they don't give a fuck anymore, so they can forget about shooting blanks! :D

Vigilance

You don't have to pay just to read the forums. I do think you need an account to read them though.

Either way, the reason to be a subscriber to ENW isn't to avoid ads, or search, or get free stuff, it's just because ENW is awesome.

I've also donated to a few blogs I like, and a podcast or two.

I do wonder what they spend their money on; even with images turned off that site c r a w l s.

And no, it's not my internet connection (it has since the 5mbps days, now at 20), nor my computer (it has since the Pentium 4 2ghz half gig of RAM days, now a dual core, 4gb RAM).

Despite me blocking all their ads, is the page still stubbornly trying to load those side and top banners?

Boose and hookers. Hookers and boose. Whichever works best.

It does crawl for me too.

Fuck. Well, there goes my Plan A, then.

Plan B is that members pay theRPGsite or one of the mods burns your house down.
