This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ain't that the fuckin' truth.

Coolest prostitute I ever met was working her way through Law School, and yes that redlined my Irony Meter when she told me.

Sorry I got cranky at you JJ, I was having a momentary bit of intolerance.

I'd always assumed that most porn stars dreamed of breaking into mainstream acting careers, but I've been told by friends that a good number of porn performers seek to develop some celebrity and then become high-value escorts... the pay is better for less work, they've got more privacy and they get to choose who they work with.

No worries I was kinda asking for it :)

I particularly loved the 'a pornstar does not engage in sex with the customer' comment from Sigmund, one wonders how much green you woudl have to lay down to get a 2 day job as a pornstar, but  The Koala wins with "whores will have sex with anyone for money. Porn Stars are much more selective about who they have sex for money with. "

I'm just guessing that this distinction is how they get around the whole prostitution is illegal thing to be able to make the movies legally. What actually happens behind closed doors is something I'm not all that interested in.

Really? What, exactly, is the difference? I can understand that there might be those in the profession that are more selective or more "elite" than others, but it's the same job that each is a label for. I think the vast majority of the rest of the english-speaking world would consider the words to be two different labels for the same thing. Where might I find some information that would help inform me about the differences between the two if in fact they are not equivalent?

Well, put it this way - a prostitute CAN be a whore, but you don't have to be a prostitute to be a whore.

In my mind, it's attitude. A prostitute is doing it for the money, sure, but its a job. A whore does it for money, kicks, power over someone, getting back at daddy - any number of reasons. In my dictionary, at least.

Ah, so this is your own personal distinction. I've only known a few prostitutes and never on a professional level, only as people I partied with. I never personally witnessed the distinctions to which you refer, so I will stand by my view of the equivalency of the labels until exposed to evidence to the contrary.

T. Foster

Zak is clearly very smart and talented and a good writer. I can't figure out why he's chosen porn as a career. Has anybody here seen any of his movies? Does he have a giant monster cock? Also, considering today's post at Grognardia it's particularly ironic to see WotC playing up the "D&D is a hit with the porn set" angle. Perhaps they're hoping for an 80s-style moral panic to coincide with the upcoming release of the retro-styled Red Box... ;)

From what I understand, he hasn't chosen porn as a career, he's a successful artist who makes all his money selling art.  The punk/tattoo art crowd isn't all that big I don't think, so the punk/tattoo porn people hang out at the punk/tattoo art galleries.  Anyway, one of the "alt-porn" producers asked him to be in a porn movie and he said sure.  I haven't seen any movies him or his regular group have been in.  The only porn star name I recognize that's played there is Sasha Grey.
