This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Deathstalkers The Fantasy-Horror Role-Playing Game

I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

Quote from: Danger;351744Never heard of it, but it looks metal as hell.

It does, doesn't it. :)

RPGPundit

It looks like quite the "Fantasy Heartbreaker"... complete with nothing added since 2003, the author giving himself a 5-star review, claiming to be the biggest RPG around, presenting itself as better than D20, etc etc.

And yes, heavy-metal look to it that personally just bores me.

I own a copy of Deathstalkers II (2005).  It is indeed a fantasy heartbreaker, but as far as fantasy heartbreakers go I think it is one of the better ones.  The first edition was named in one of Uncle Ron's articles specifically as a fantasy heartbreaker.  I haven't seen the first edition version, but the second edition is based off the OGL d20 System.  The cover art and interior art is fairly good.  There are a couple of silly images, but for the most part the art is good.  It has a good map, glossary, and index which is always a plus.

You can download a copy of Deathstalker II's Open Game Content from Cutter's Guild Games website.

Spike

Yeah. I got that thing. Big honkin' heavy things. Lots of interesting ideas in it but I felt, at the end of the day, that it wasn't really worth it.

The 'Deathstalkers', those big iron dudes on the cover, were part of the problem... a never ending wave of slow as shit 'killfuck soulshitter' golems walking across the land killing everything?  The more I read about them the more I could feel my brains dribbling out my ears.

Short side of it: You've got upteenbillion player races, including two or three dog people, a deer man, a half demon race and so forth. Each one gets a limit break power attack thingy.

You've got, as I recall, percentile based skills with different plateaus of cool, and classes... off the top of my head I almost want to say it is a Synnibar style world with an actual workable system underneath it all.

I never played it, so I can't speak to the true functionality of the system. Seemed solid enough, if a bit fiddly.  I vaguely recall doing some test runs with a character in solo encounters just to see if I could get it to work, which it did.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

It seemed pretty neat to me. I played a few games but was unable to drum up interest in a campaign. I can't speak to long term play.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

I'm astounded that there's this many people who've even heard of it.  Next you're all going to be telling me you played Darkurthe Legends too.

A friggin' deer man?  Sounds so ridiculous that I just have to play one.

I picked up a copy of 2E on ebay a few months ago. I must say that I was really put off with some elements like class levels, spells and monsters that felt like D&D, and the small type in some sections (even the back cover was hard to read). Nothing in it for me, but others may find it enjoyable.

Yeah, the vertical class charts were a strange idea.

I've played it.
I loved the grimdark Tolkien of it. System was, off for me and my friends.
I also had  some difficulty  convincing people to play/make character types who could work together, but that's any broad spectrum game.

Hah! All I remember about it is that it had some kind of magic system that I thought was very cool at the time; but now I don't even recall the details.
