This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Bummer!  I'd have to loved to have had you there.

For those who are going, aside from my usual Gen Con coverage:

Smash N' Grab at Kobold Caverns (Microlite74:  sold out, but I can fit in 1-2 more, I think):   While the kobolds have marched out to rout the Baron's army, your village decides it's time to make up for a poor harvest by snatching whatever they can from the now (allegedly) lightly-defended kobold lair. But the kobolds haven't completely abandoned their caverns, and no treasure goes unguarded... Quick-play session. A prize for grabbing the most loot (and still making it out alive)! Kids allowed with accompanying adult.

2009 GM's Jam (LOTS of tickets left for this):  Come and get answers for all your GM problems, led by a crack panel of GMing experts. This is a friendly, open, give-and-take, seminar session where we share, discuss, and find answers to many of the issues we have about the craft of Game Mastery.

Caesar Slaad

I will be there.

I already have 2 Independent Ops (i.e., not official in any way) Spycraft game scheduled. Let me know if you are interested. (one is wednesday, one is friday)

I may run more.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Zach - The GM panel sounds really interesting! I'll try and come by!

Caesar - Thanks for the Spycraft offer! I had a bad experience with Spycraft a couple of years ago at GenCon but I bet you'd run a much better game!

Recommend me a restaurant to eat dinner at with my buds.

My favorite (and I know this opinion is not universally shared) is Bucca de Beppo (sp?), a little Italian restaraunt with a floorplan resembling a dungeon in its own right, and a family-style menu.

For more American fare, I enjoyed the Weber Grille, which is in the same building the embassy is in.

The Alcatraz is good.

Lots of folks swear by The Ram, but I personally wouldn't go there unless you plan to sit there for a good long time. They seem way too crowded during GenCon.

If you want the authentic Gen Con experience, I'd recommend the Ram. It's a Gen Con tradition to have a meal there, but it can be crowded.  Less crowded but definitely on the expensive side is Palomino, which serves some delightful Mediterranean-style and American cuisine.  Much cheaper, but also less satisfying, is the world's most chaotic Steak n' Shake.

Thanks for the restaurant ideas! We've eaten at Bucca, the Ram and Steak-n-Shake last year. Good stuff!

We'll try the Weber Grille and Alcatraz this year! Thanks!

New GenCon Question:  True Dungeon is sold out. But I heard you can still get into a game. Any ideas how? Go late at night? Go early in the morning?

OT: I worked at Steak-n-Shake in college, hit on this cute girl there and, will wonders never cease, we've been married for 16 years. Steak-n-Shake has a special place in my heart (and stomach)!

JollyRB

We've made it a GenCon tradition to have dinner at the Rathskeller the night before the con starts.  The con crowd haven't discovered it for the most part and the waitstaff are exceptional.

Jolly, thanks for the idea!

BTW, we're signed up for a Hackmaster Basic adventure. Looking forward to it!
