This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Does it ever get old?

I don't get bored. However, I have been frustrated at times - enough to shut down the game for six months or a year.

My players are all old friends, and regard the game sessions as times to drink beer and chat. I've had persistent problems with players making essentially no effort to help run the game, and engaging it frequent off-topic banter in the middle of play. Problem is, the guys who chatter the most are the most enthusiastic about making the effort to play, while the guys who are the most dedicated at the table have difficulty making any kind of time committment to attend game sessions.

For most of my players, RPGs are their 3rd or 4th ranked hobby. That's a problem when we all have young families and very little dedicated leisure time.

Well I envy you guys. I jaded and fussy, which sounds like a contradiction but it's exactly the way it is, both as a GM and as player (in our group we are all experienced GMs so I get to do a fair bit of both). It's not that our games always suck, they don't, but it's so hit and miss. And it's always so hard. There is no sweet spot, no old reliable game that never fails. If it wasn't for the social aspect, we are friends before gamers, I think we might have given up by now.

It wasn't always like this. When I first started roleplaying I was so excited about the whole thing, never even stopped to consider the quality of the game, I was just happy to be playing. And no, I was no kid. I got into roleplaying late in life. I had a full time job and a mortgage before long before I ever owned a set of funnily shaped dice.

I think things changed as I got more exposure to GMing. Once you've seen how it works behind the scenes, your perspective changes, or at least it did for me.

I wonder if groups in which there is only one natural GM have it easier.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

Gaming and the games themselves never get old.  What tends to get old are the egos and attitudes that fester up after gaming for a while.  Although I bare through it, I find it refreshing to find a new campaign with different faces.
1,150 things Mr. Welch can no longer do during an RPG

390. My character\'s background must be more indepth than a montage of Queen lyrics.

629. Just because they are all into rock, metal and axes, dwarves are not all headbangers.

702. The Banana of Disarming is not a real magic item.

1059. Even if the villain is Lawful Evil, slapping a cease and desist order on him isn't going to work

What you do, is you grab the best person from each campaign to form your group, because they probably don't like the egos, either.
The main problem with government is the difficulty of pressing charges against its directors.

Given a choice of two out of three M&Ms, the human brain subconsciously tries to justify the two M&Ms chosen as being superior to the M&M not chosen.

It might get old if I ever had a chance to play. I'm living with my racist brother now, so I guess i could download and run RaHoWa....I could even invite CavScout, I bet he'd enjoy that as well.  Eh, THAT would get old to me.

Nope, it's fresh and new most of the time. That's partly because I try to game with lots of new people, so there's always some new idea popping up.

Shav, please don't put out trollbait. It's not like we don't have enough of them.
