This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Here's a link to download a Star Hex Map (with stars!) for Traveller or any other Scifi game you might be playing that needs a map of space.

On the topic of maps and Traveller... is it just me or does the planet generation table in Mongoose's game give you on average a lot of small, low-gravity worlds?  Is that something from Classic Traveller as well?

Once I've finished mapping out my sub-sector I'll post that file as well -- along with little planet icons and other spacey doodads I'll PhotoShop into the file.

(I need to watch this movie again soon! :D)

Check out the Mongoose forum's Traveller section for a sample sector done 3 ways, straight up, hard science option, and space opera option. 3 separate threads each with analysis of average results far better than I could give (EDG has a PhD in planetary something or other).

And yes Dune is good fodder for Traveller et al.

Thanks!  I found the threads and they're very interesting. :)

Pseudoephedrine

I found that it does tend towards small, low-gravity worlds with shitty technology after rolling up about thirty-five worlds for a subsector I was making (10x10 grid). Cool stuff on the hex map.

What you need my friend, if it is indeed Traveller, for mapping, is Heaven and Earth.

Heaven and Earth

This will map out complete sectors for you in minutes, in such detail as to leave your mind reeling...

WHOA!

That's enough to get me to fire up the Windows machine just to download and run it. :)

Thanks for the link!

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

No thread of this nature would be complete without a link to free graph paper of all sorts:

Incompetech

No starfield paper, though.

Yes, in both versions of Traveller, you start by rolling planet size on 2D6-2. This gives an average result of 5, or 5000 miles diameter, or 8000 km. diameter. Earth would be about size 8. So yes, most worlds are smaller, with thin atmospheres, and relatively less water.

Thanks for the hex map link!
