Totally after the fact, but this bugger is like impossible to find at a decent price now (even on ebay), and it'll only get worse.

I pre-ordered it on the installment plan. $10/month for a year made for what felt like an effortless purchase. The single best game product I've ever bought. And I have yet to see the slew of megapriced superproducts that were feared would be engendered by it.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

But how can that be? ENWorld assures me Monte sucks and 3.5 sucks... you should be digging it out of the trash like this guy.

Sorry, not selling mine. :D

Thanks--I'm counting nickels right now, but am hoping to come into a bit of funds soon.  If the offer still stands, I'll take you up on it. :)

Zach , call my store ahead of time....we can put it on hold for you - then drive the 2 hours east and purchase it where I work .

Heck if you had told me his Thursday or Friday - you could have taken advantage of our FCBD sale - everything in the store was 20% off today.

What, you mean the wailing online predictions of doom turned out to be reactionary, ill informed bollocks? Suddenly I feel even more validated by my excitement over 4E! :D

I want ptolus too, but I know I'd never use it. it's too high magic for my tastes; but I do think that it's neato. I have the same feeling about Monte's WOD, actually- but i think I'll be able to get that for a couple of dollars in a year or two.

I thought Monte was still beloved?

He is, on the whole. It's just that with the arrival of 4E some of his detractors are becoming more vocal. I seriously doubt that the majority of ENWorld holds this opinion, but I rarely visit there nowadays.

Regarding the topic, Ptolus is also something I'd like to try, although it strikes me as being a little too 3.x centric for my tastes. As with most things d20 I'd go for a True20 conversion, or maybe even Savage Worlds.

I was thinking the same thing for it.

Yeah, I think Micrlolite would also be a good choice for a really quick and dirty version that focused on the setting over the ruleset.

Well, given Ptolus was a test-bed for many of 3e's mechanics, and specifically was designed to embody D&D's core assumptions, especially concerning magic, I don't think that's surprising.

Yep, I'm aware that Ptolus is the setting where every 3E assumption has a home. That said, after looking through the book it became obvious that with minimal fiddling I could GM the city with other systems. Ptolus may have been written with D&D in mind, but it doesn't have to be run with it.
