This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Valatar on March 14, 2025, 11:36:29 PMThe trick to Mythos stuff is that it's typically extremely time-sensitive.  If you've found out that fish people are planning on calling Dagon forth from the sea to feast upon the land-dwellers, you can't really take a weekend off to explore your character's backstory, regardless of whatever it may be, which is why going and dangling obvious bait in the setting book is just encouraging That Guy to derail the campaign with his tri-gender otherkin's adventures in making it all about current-day sexual politics in Victorian London.

In published CoC adventures, there's usually a time-sensitive climax -- but the bulk of the adventure usually takes many days or weeks of travel and research and investigation, especially with 1890s travel times that can take ages on boat. Plus many GMs have down time between adventures, since the PCs are things like librarians and reporters who have homes and jobs, rather than being vagabonds.

Again, I've had two CoC characters get engaged and married during campaign - the first in my college game in the late 1980s and the other in the 2000s, and I've seen many shorter romances.

Gully Dwarves

What was the complaint about Gully Dwarves?
IIRC weren't Gully Dwarves basically scum of the earth dwarves, and the other dwarves looked down on them as subhuman filth? Probably some veiled "they represent minorities" crap.

They were effectively mentally handicapped.

Of course the prior wave of Social Justice busybodies had to complain.

Secrets of Blackmoor

Could not spot myself in the list.

The Fellowship of the Thing.

I had to look them up as I was only vaguely familiar with them from reading my old 2e books back in the day.  Oh my...   I can't wait to see which real world ethnic group the purple haired weirdos attribute to the garbage eating smelly shanty town living grovelling half breed mix of gnomes and dwarves in an effort to supposedly combat actual discrimination.

GURPS/Steve Jackson games should definitely drop to red and Soul Muppet games, especially with their latest Kickstarter against capitalism here really goes off the deep end, and is ironic that you are trying to get capital to fight capitalism.

A £75 pledge to fund Kickstarter and their sad RPG company via their anti-capitalism game? If they gave it away for free, I could at least accept that they're not grifters.

Weird.  My post is gone.  I mentioned how the vanity credits on the anti-capitalist kicker all listed pronouns with their names, negating the validity of their opinions.  Also the "Artist" should have not taken any money for his anti-capitalist "art" to be consistent, right?  They tout him as a graduate of University of the Arts in Philly, which went under!  I scouted the school out in my college days... passed it up.

By the way, Bat, SJ Games already went from yellow to red a while ago.

Wow this might be some of the cringiest things I have ever seen on Kickstarter. They really didn't hold back.
I don't even know what is funnier, the selfrighteous unselfawareness that they are raising capital to fight capitalism or their guy for sensitivity reading who as a side project is "translating" Homers Odyssey and created this masterpiece:

"Holla at me Muse, of a man who so turnt he dun wrecked the holy city called Troy, who then bounced: he peeped all dem cities of all dose people and came to know them, he took all them Ls in his soul and his life and his homies. "

And no, he's not joking, this is SERIOUS work.

Maybe you're looking at an older list?  I just checked the list and see this in the red:
QuoteSteve Jackson Games (GURPS, Munchkin) Signed October Surprise/Gamers for Hillary in 2020, which makes the [red list] stance official.  However their products remain largely apolitical.  A recent statement from Steve Jackson has caused them to be moved here, they openly stated they are political and are donating to political organizations and it will reflect in their products. Daily Illuminator: Roe v. Wade (sjgames.com) and fundraisers for Ukraine Daily Illuminator: Getting Your Ukraine Shirts Signed (sjgames.com) .  Comments on their forums at time of writing are disabled.  For someone who created such a good game, and the most notoriously complex game on the market, they seem to have lost their ability to reason.

They tarnished Wiz War for a few DEI bucks and it's not a good look at all. I'm glad I am not this mentally inept.

Pull up the Kickstarter and make your own decision. I've played the 2012 version various times (what got me into it) and made the entire PnP version by hand. It's like they didn't want it to sell or something.
