This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Oh, thats sad.   Prayers for his family.

So grateful that his ideas for Metamorphosis Alpha and Gamma World got printed and influenced so many gamers like me.

Thank you good sir.

Saw it last night. Very, very sudden. I had just been questioning with him a week or so beforehand about anything he would add to make 0-level players more interesting.

Last time I saw Jim Ward I bought him a drink at the hotel bar. Guess I'll need to pour one out for him tonight.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

So saddened by Jim's passing - Metamorphosis Alpha was the third rpg (after Traveller and D&D) I got - I remember being so thrilled getting a second hand 'as new' copy in 1981 in a now long gone London games shop and playing it at school the next week. I met him a couple of times over the years and he was always friendly and enthusiastic, a true loss to the hobby.

His boxed set for D&D 2E Spelljammer was the best boxed set I saw from D&D.  The hard card stock with ship painting on the front and a map card detailing the ship, the two large map posters one for ship combat and the other of the Rock of Braj and the three books and counters was the best value I've ever seen in a RPG product to date.

I always thought the Rock of Bral was the best part of the Spelljammer setting (wasn't so keen on the 'Crystal Shell' though).

My Fast Forward Entertainment red books have gotten more valuable.  It's now worth tens of dollars!

Very sorry for his passing.

Greetings!

Very sad to hear of James Ward passing on. The TTRPG hobby has lost an outstanding pillar and inspiring designer that contributed immensely to our hobby through decades.

I wish the best for his family during this time. James Ward shall always be remembered.

The Dungeon Hobby Shop Youtube Channel has been posting some videos of Jim talking about the early days at TSR. This one is him recalling his problems with Kevin Blume and the dice sets needed for the Basic game box back in the day.

Sad to hear of Jim's passing. One of the true hobby greats.

I'm not that into watching other people play, but those YouTube videos of him running a game the way Gary did were enlightening.

Pretty much no one liked Kevin Blume. Kask has gone on record as stating he'd punch the fucker if he ever saw him for all the damage he did.
