The pc's in the rpgpundit's dcc campaigns

I find the pc's in Pundits campaign interesting from several angles.
a) They are all very high level. How does the system handle dcc pc's when they are above 5th level. The game was initially designed with 5th level as the top level, the pc's abilities get pretty crazy if they exceed level 5. Also there are no parton spells above level 3 and generally there are few spells after level 3.
b) Those guys have pretty crazy stats. Did they raise them from finding stuff in the campaign? Because it pretty much impossible to reach these stats through 3d6.

Ah suspected as such, but didn't see anything suggesting it. So decided to post in the main forum.
Sorry.

Ah i suspected as much, didn't find anything suggesting they have to approved. So thought the forums were just wonky.
Sorry for the mix up.

So, to answer your questions (I was waiting to see if anyone had other comments):

a) DCC handles high level play AWESOMELY. High-level DCC characters are wild, but still vulnerable. Just last session we had a major high-level PC die. But as a GM I suggest don't try to hold back your high-level PCs. Let them kick ass, make them face tough opponents, and it plays much more smoothly and much more exciting than regular D&D (any edition) at high levels.

b) The maximum normal stat is 18.  Some of them have higher stats because of items that they're using that increase stats, some others have had weird magical effects that permanently raised some of their stats, including above 18.
The way I  handle it in my DCC campaign is that any PC ability score of 18+ is still only a +3 bonus. So if you have a 20 Strength stat, your Strength bonus is still +3; you just have a bigger buffer before you end up falling to a +2.

So its the stat booster that raise their stats. The obvious thing I hadn't thought of.
Glad to hear high levels play well in dcc. It is interesting that what you say fits with high level dcc characters being much better at offense than defense. Their saves don't increase by much for example but everybody, except maybe the cleric, has some pretty extreme offensive capabilities aka luck for damage, spells and spell burn or deeds+multiple attacks.
Btw do you progress deeds higher than 7 or 7 is the max?

I also saw the dead player starts at level 1? Ouch!

Malfi

Ok I posted twice but the site ate it?

I will kinda sumarize it because I don't want to write everything again.
I am glad it plays well, what you say fits with high level DCC having more offense than defense. Luck to damage, spell burn, even no spell burn spells scale faster than saves, and deeds also.

So it the reason the stat were high, were stat boosters. I missed the most obvious explanation.

Honestly I would like for goodman games to eventually fill some gaps. Maybe more magic items, maybe high level patron spells would be nice. That said this is very unlikely.

Btw the dead pc started at level 1? Ouch!

RPGPundit

The dead PC started at level 0.

As for the spells and items, I haven't noticed a dire need for it. I mean, I make up  my own items, and the spells already on the books are powerful enough, because remember that every single DCC spell scales as you get higher in level and can thus roll bigger effects.
