This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Chaosium's BRP Central, its echo chambers and how the company view me as a customer.

There, there, snowflake.  Show us on the doll where the bad company touched you.

No, I don't have detailed files lol. It's just that you kind of stand out on RPGsite.

And my comment to you has nothing to do with Islam. The part I quoted made it seem like you were saying, "I was called a bigot. But I can't be a bigot because I'm an atheist". Maybe I misinterpreted what you were saying, but given your views on this very site I admit that I don't find your particular form of bigotry very surprising. That, by the way, isn't an attack or a criticism of you personally. It just is by definition, and I tend to think we all (as in humankind) have our own areas for which we're bigoted. Most of us on this site, for example, don't like "SJW's". I myself find that I really can't stand the company of people with Humanities backgrounds, in general.

As for the folks at Chaosium, all I can say is that they're known leftists there. So nothing you posted in the OP is in the least bit surprising to me. Nor the revelation that they think you aren't a good fit for their forums.
The more clichéd my group plays their characters, the better. I don't want Deep Drama™ and Real Acting™ in the precious few hours away from my family and job. I want cheap thrills, constant action, involved-but-not-super-complex plots, and cheesy but lovable characters.

Quote from: GIMME SOME SUGAR;1106408Seems you have a bigot on your friends list. I just checked my friends list and you're on it. My friend.
You requested and I accepted. Just because I disagree with you're opinion of Islam doesn't mean I won't be friends with you. I'm not some simple-minded SJW conducting purity tests. I can defend myself if someone wants to accuse me guilty by association... which is a different matter than if I had a store and you came in mouthing off about such things.
I'm no Chaosium fanboy... I used to be, even into the declining years... but this new crew has pretty much fired me as a customer, which is their prerogative... but I don't see the point in arguing my thoughts on their site, though sometimes I weaken and take pot shots at CoC 7e.
I'm not claming to be free of prejudice either. Pretty much every human on earth has dumb opinions about something. Usually it's best to keep it in your pants until you're among friends, and then let THEM tell you to shut up about it.

Quote from: GIMME SOME SUGAR;1106407Well, I decided to be banned so I can't go back even if I wanted to. But your comment is interesting? Why should I consider myself fortunate? Spill the beans now.:D

Long long ago before the site got increasingly locked off. I used to RP on a chat with the sites founders and creator. Lets just say that over the course of a few years doing CoC RPs that it became very apparent that these were not nice people and that in fact they were pretty horrible people who took pleasure in causing others misery. Assuming its the same admin from way back. And probably is. Then odds are that same clique of hate is still festering there. This group made RPGnet admin look like saints. And they were doing this as far back as 1999. Whats even more ironic is that some Chaosium staff at the time had heard of the goings on, were a little concerned, and asked me to investigate.

Its a long standing sore point.

But it HAS been 2 decades. (yeebus has it really been that long???) So who knows if its the same ol' scum or new crazy.

I think the problem was that a RPG Site is not the place to be mouthing off against real world religions.

The worst of the posts have apparently been deleted, so are difficult to quote. Normally, I am quite placid about people mouthing off, but the posts that probably earned the ban at BRP Central really rubbed me up the wrong way and I reacted quite strongly for me. However, I didn't report them, someone else must have done that. My view was:

QuoteI'm not a Moderator, but just knock it off.

This is a Forum about RPG Games, not about real world religions or your intolerance of some of them. There are many sites that would welcome bigoted views, so you can hapily post on those.

I really don't want to hear why someone doesn't like a particular religion or part of a religion.

Sure, Sharia Law has some things in that I detest, for example Mutilation, Capital Punishment and Conversion from Islam to Christianity being an offence. However, is it really worse than other Medieval Laws? The Spanish Inquisition imposed very harsh penalties on Jews who converted to Christianity but still retained their Jewish traditions and practices, for example. Many Medieval states had Mutilation as a punishment. Many used laws from the Old Testament, which have the same roots as Shariah Law. In the UK, homosexual acts were illegal in my lifetime, which is a hangover from those older laws. Many countries had Adultery as being an offence, the same as in Sharia Law, but the penalty is different.

Laws based on Religion can be very suspect, and I say that as a, mildly, religious person.

Seems you've got a bit of a chip on your shoulder. But if you don't preach about  the joys of bacon, I will refrain from preaching about Islam and the joys of slow cooked beef ribs.

I lied, I am going to preach about slow cooked beef ribs. The link below is the place in Kuala Lumpur that brought me such culinary delight. Also, there is a pub right smack dab next door if you need a pint afterwards.

Quote from: GIMME SOME SUGAR;1106363I always shit my pants around sensitive people.

This...might be your problem.

But I can sympathize. It's really fun to terrorize the overly sensitive.

Quote from: sureshot;1106372GOS you also have a very very confrontational posting style.

I expect its mostly venting, frustration and backlash. I get that. He'll be fine here because he won't be banned, but get vigorous pushback instead. If he sticks it out here, he'll learn how to be no worse than the rest of us deplorable scum.

Quote from: sureshot;1106372Here is an unwritten rule being a paying customer in no way shape or form entitles one to be rude to any company nor is any company going to put up with it.

THIS is very true.

The "80/20 rule" in business says 80% of your trouble comes from 20% of your customers and quite often, its better ROI to dump those customers than deal with them. And it probably better for the customer to move on to another company too.

Quote from: GIMME SOME SUGAR;1106402And here comes the beloved bigot card into play again. I'm a bigot because I don't buy into the "religion of peace" BS? Why don't you take a good look at the world and wake the fuck up?

First up, let's sing along with Slipknot. It's good for the soul.

Second, your experience with the Islamic invasion as a Swede is quite different than most Americans' experience as few of our Muslims are as radicalized (so far). Even our Israel hating US representative Ilhan Omar who married her brother for citizenship always makes time for her campaign manager's tasty white dick. Combine that with the Left's bizarre delusion that Islam + LGBT rights + Women's right is real combo, its no surprise the BRP mods would freak the fuck out over your anger.

As for looking at the world and waking the fuck up, you know the truth. You see what's happening to your own people who are at ground zero for the shitstorm, but make believe everything's hunky dory. Just imagine how much easier avoiding the truth must be for people far removed from the reality.

Quote from: GIMME SOME SUGAR;1106402And you can hardly toss your own cookies, let alone 270 lbs of angry Swede.

I recently learned a swede was a turnip in Scotland. In the USA, we call them rutabagas.

So...you're a really chunky turnip!

1) Bacon is freaking awesome!!

2) There's a world of difference between peaceful Islam and the radicalized "version" trying to subvert the entire religion. Unfortunately, we know which one grabs the headlines.

3) Halal ribs are freaking awesome!! We have halal pizza, ribs and chicken places in Los Angeles and its almost always supremely well cooked. We have a sizable Lebanese-American community and many Armenian-American places also use halal meat.

4) Both you and GOS are 100% welcome to discuss anything here. It's a free speech forum so he can defend his shoulder chip and you can poke at it. Or just agree to disagree. Either way, its fine here.

I wonder if they believe "Islam is right about women" over at that forum?

Still, they certainly have a good strategy:
1. Encourage Islam and Muslim immigration as a wedge against the bad kind of white people
2. Grow old and die just in time while Islam is still under 20-30% of the population
3. Leave their white children and grandchildren a divided country where they have to compete in every sphere against newcomers with different religion and beliefs who are now just as numerous and more aggressive than the whites
....
4. Profit! Or something. Because they get to virtue signal on forums.

True and I admit I have done it myself, but at the same time I know when to draw the line and stop. Going to forums it's not my first rodeo so to speak and can do the Internet equivalent of reading a room and adjust my behavior accordingly. GOS refuses to do and instead brings Napalm to a forest fire. Yes some mods can are are power hungry. Some posters when told to stop give a big fuck you to the mods, and the rest of the forum while giving two middle fingers. I can believe GOS was treated unfairly over at the Chaosium forums I also believe seeing his behavior her that instead of toning the bad behavior down quintupled down on it. While also showing awhile back that he absolutely despises any push back from other posters unless it's a validation backslapping kind. Either way in this situation both are very much at fault.

I know work for a company that specializes in dental insurance. Customer think that if they pay less premiums because before it was too expensive they somehow think they have more coverage. Or their insurance plan only allows coverage from massage specialist A not B or C. It does not matter if they were paying premiums for the last 30 years. If your plan says only specialist A is covered that is the only one the insurance company will cover.

The worst was the absolute sense of entitlement so had when I worked for an appliance delivery company. They expected the delivery people to not only deliver the items but also clean the snow (fucking lazy bastards and bitches . So sorry your order maybe worth 4000$+ they are a delivery not snow removal service. After 30-4o cms of snow falls they want their item now good luck with that and I want a billion dollars.

Quote from: GIMME SOME SUGAR;1106381Would that store ban you for a month because you didn't like a little Sharia advice?

Wow either you REALLY lack the social skills to read a room or simply just spout whatever nonsense comes into your head because your getting push-back.

First off unless the store owner asks for your opinion on Sharia law or advice it's none of your damn business to go around telling people your opinions they did not ask to hear about. If the store owner was Muslim he would have grounds to ban me forever because one does not go to store owned by one to start stupidly mouthing off unneeded and more importantly unwanted opinion on Sharia law. Even if the owner was not a Muslim many have customers who shop their why the hell would they want you or any other like minded person scaring them away.

Get a fucking clue learn to read a room. It's like going into a bank waving a toy gun around as a joke then wondering why security is shooting at you or arresting you.

I sympathize with what happened to you because I was banned from Rpg.net on the slimmest of excuses yet I should have read the room.

Look dude, not every place you go is going to be an echo chamber for your opinions. If a forum doesn't feel like it will be a hospitable place for your ideas, then do not voice them there. While you have experienced the shitty side of the internet at BRP forums and Yog-Sothoth forums, it should make you that much more pleased to have found TheRPGSite where free speech is the norm. Of course, this place won't be an echo chamber for your opinions either - in which case maybe you need to look at how you are presenting yourself.

This chunky assed tunip was touched here:

And I like beef (but I refuse to buy halal meat) too, but bacon is so delicious. I always take things personally. I might have some kind of Internet Assburgers. That muslim woman in the forum revved me up starting her post with "If that's too complicated for you...bla bla" and then came the Sharia example. That's when my suspension begin creeping up on me I guess.

I have rubbed them the wrong way before too, but much of it was really constructive criticism. I really wish they made CoC a darker, more horrific game but sadly it's becoming more pulp, Slimer green and Scooby-Doo. Jeff as a creative director is directly responsible for this. Others too. Mike Mason and Lynne Hardy are leftists who know nothing about horror as a genre. Lynne Hardy doesn't even watch horror movies because they are TOO scary. What a fucking joke. They just sit and paste minorities in old campaigns. Tokenism at its finest.

There is no vision, there is no artistic integrity. Maybe Chaosium wants a part of the Pathfinder/D&D crowd. They were so excited when Call of Cthulhu ran on Critical Role. They slobbered all over that session and how many new Starter Sets they were selling. And Chaosium just keeps peddling new versions of old campaigns and scenarios all the time. How many versions of Masks do people need, honestly? Whatabout writing something new and creepy for a change?

According to Chaosium, Sans Detour hadn't payed for the CoC license for two years (I wonder why they didn't contact them earlier) so the rights reverted back to Chaosium. They already have a new French distributor in a Spanish company.

But look at the beautiful French prestige editions. They put EVERYTHING Chaosium has ever done to shame. Instead of nurturing that talent, infusing it in their own company or taking inspiration from it and trying to top it, they killed it. Out of jealousy in part I think. And of course they wanted their pound of flesh. The truth is that Sans Detour made Chaosium look like layout amateurs, like children with crayons. If there ever was a will to continue working with them, it could have been solved.
