This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How have / would you make use of Lion & Dragon?

So while I have been on a holiday of sorts from actually playing RPGs; becoming addicted to my pool table: I have been reading Lion & Dragon, taking some notes, etc.

I genuinely like the concept of more authentic medieval flavor; but I haven't committed myself to embracing L&D whole hog, just yet.  I love the simplicity of something like say S&W White Box / White Box FMAG / OD&D, etc.; but I do get the itch to add just a little more content.  L&D may very well be a great resource for such as that, imho.

Well, do you have some more specific questions about how to use it?

I know some people have used it in very unusual ways. Eric Fabiashi has been mixing it (and Dark Albion) with all kinds of other OSR games and settings, which is very cool.

I've used it in various campaigns of course, but the main one was the original Dark Albion campaign, which was a political/war campaign with elements reminiscent of Game of Thrones.

But I've also used it in a Inquistors campaign, where the PCs are agents of the clerical order, hunting heretics, witches, and monsters.

Most recently, I'm using it to run an Arthurian campaign. It's doing very well with that.

I think I'd strip the Cleric out of it at the very least.

I've long had an idle thought to base a fantasy setting using the Four Realms cosmology inspired by the Sephiroth and described in GURPS Cabal.  The world would be rather Henotheistic with the Creator residing in Atziluth and an orthodox Church set up around the guidance of the angels and a few key prophets.  Pagan gods do exist and are invoked by wizards and the occasional pagan priest, but nobody can deny that the Creator is the big dog of the setting and where the Clerics tread, enemies of Creation tremble.

Your Inquisitors campaign description reminds me of the movies, "Season of the Witch", and "Van Helsing".  Yeah, sign me up for that.  Let's hunt down the enemies of the church with torches and longswords, while searching for ancient relics.

Play Kingdom Come Deliverance for a few hours... it might wet your appetite for medieval roleplay.

Well, Clerics in L&D are powerhouses. They have huge social influence. Their miraculous powers are instant, whereas most magister spells are actually rituals to create objects or perform tasks. And at higher levels they can end up directly invoking divine aid.

If you add in the material in the upcoming Cult of the Saints supplement, they'll be able to pray for added effect to patron saints.

Yes, that's more or less how it goes. It's a lot of fun.
