This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I am a kickstarter supporter for the Modiphius Conan game and am thrilled with what Ive received so far but am wondering when to expect the upcoming products. I cant seem to find a release schedule anywhere. Can anyone help?

Have you emailed them?  There been pretty responsive from what I've seen.

Have you had a chance to play?

My group is considering a Conan-esque game, and would probably purchase and crib from it if it has anything to offer (particularly a non-D&D-esque magic setup). A friend of mine was in on the kickstarter and I read his copy for ~1/2 hr. Some of the wording was unnecessarily confusing, but it looked like a nifty, if maybe more character-build-y than we're looking for, game.

I have played through some solo encounters and a couple of battles with prospective players. Im pretty excited about the system as a whole but must say I am a Robert E. Howard nut (yearly pilgrimage to his home in Cross Plains to some of his work privately while sitting in his yard) and am terribly biased. I cannot wait to run a campaign using the new system but was hoping to wait until my collection of materials was a bit more complete. There are several more books coming up, Im willing to wait a few months or even a year to have a full set when we kick off.

As to emailing them = yes, and they have been good about answering but I havent gotten even a hint of when the follow up character/setting books are expected to be released.

Maybe after John Carter gets launched they will be able to get their sandled feet back on the road of Kings.

I really like Howard's stories as well, but I am asking about this particular game system, not his works.

As I said, I only have had a half hour or so to peruse it. It seemed like a nice system (in particular, non-leveled, non-combat-centric magic), but the wording seemed rather arcane. There was something like backgrounds or the like where you could roll randomly or choose, and each would give you primary and optional stat boosts that you then had to arrange such that some stats would get +1 to +3, depending on priority, and something else strange happened if you chose or got the same row twice. It was interesting, but confusing.

The character creation routine is a little crunchy but is easy to learn and really lends some depth to your character. You start out with more than a list of stats and have a good basis to develop your vision of your character to roleplay with. The random element of character creation is optional as well, you are permitted to choose instead of roll on every one of those many tables for Background, Nature, War Story or what have you.

Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar
