This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

FGU's Bushido, Free To A Good Home

OK, so I picked up a copy of FGU's Bushido from McKay's Used Books and after reading through it, find it not to my liking. It isn't a bad game, it just doesn't suit my tastes.

So, since I only paid $1 for it (and it does have some red underlining in it from the previous owner), I'm giving it away to a good home for whoever wants it. You will have to pay for shipping if it is going outside of the continental United States, but otherwise it is yours for the taking.

I'll take it if it has the box and map!

No box and map, just the rulebook. Still want it?

If Dumarest doesn't want just the rulebook, I'll take it, Jeff.

Let Grodog have it, I already have the books. Thanks, though!

My quest for the box and map continues!

Enjoy it Grodog!

Bushido is excellent overall, but a tad bumpy in parts. I haven't played it in decades, but deeply fond memories so I do wonder if I would still adore it today.

Jeff, what didn't work for you?

And I'm choking over the $1 price you paid.

It just seemed to have too many fiddly bits attached to it and I got the impression that when playing, there would be a conflict between actually playing and chasing through the weeds of the rules after the fiddly bits.

Grodog, the biggest problems Bushido has is it's organization. There are character creation rules in a couple of different sections that I seem to recall do not refer back to each other. I recommend a quick skimming through the rules to find the relevant information before you start reading through. The other problems are overuse of abbreviations and unusual and unnecessary terms like BCS for Basic Chance of Success and FIS  for Freely Improvable Skill. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature and is really no more complicated than D&D. There is also a lot of great background material and a starter adventure section at the end. As for maps, really you could use any map of Japan during its feudal era. I hope you will give Bushido a chance to reveal its greatness!

Thanks for the input guys, and thank you Jeff for the book.  I'll let you know when it arrives, and my thoughts on it (Tadashi Ehara always spoke very highly of the system!).
