SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What's up with NTL?

Since this is NTL's companion site, I figured this would be the place to ask. As of 05.30 am, CET (which would be 11.30 pm, EDT), all I get from any NTL/SO-related URL is the "There's Nothing down there - April 2006" image that was there before it changed name to Nothingland. Perhaps Pooka or one of the Nutkins knows what's up with that?

Doing a database backup - tried to do a mysqlhotcopy - guess who forgot the root password.  I did a Mysqldump instead but I gotta recall that password or next time a code upgrade is needed we'll have to reinstall the box from scratch unless Cravin created a rescue disk (you did create a rescue disk didn't you Cravin??)

We're going down in 30 minutes for the same reason.

phpMyAdmin is your friend :)

I use it at work and I love it.

Seems to be up again now, anyway.

Got a little lesson in the importance of backups recently? :)

I do them monthly but I need to write a cron.

Any chance of a downtime warning, or of routine maintenance not happening during the busiest part of the day?

No?

Didn't think so. :p

Pooka's fucking around again... my bet is on the shop coming back.

Maybe we'll have to spend rep to get stuff! That would be interesting. :p
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.

That's one of the features I'm plugging in actually - a simplified system even Bullit can use.  And yes, I'm installing the ushop namelips.

True - in any case I work during the day - so this is my playtime. I felt like doing this today so being the chaotic impulsive person I am I did it.

I hope the point-buy system doesn't affect existing options.

Avatar switching is now point based, but otherwise it's unchanged. The reason Darrin switched that is that if someone switches your avatar as a prank he doesn't want it switched right back.
