This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Renovating Our Reviews

I've been thinking of ways the site might become of more use to gamers, and I would suggest the following:

-Find someone who's willing to be Head of Reviews.  In essence, this person would be in charge not only of the reviews section, but of soliciting product for review, publicizing, managing the queue of reviews, that sort of thing.

-Snag two or three of our best reviewers and make them Staff Reviewers.  If you submit to theRPGsite's review system, you know your product is going to get a top-notch reviewer by one of our staff within a certain timeframe.  Ideally, the Head of Reviews would also write a couple.

-Ensure anyone can still write a review of whatever they want.

Now, I'm gearing up for another (final) ENnies judge run, but I really think this would help get the site more exposure, and let us end up not only more useful, but perhaps with some new friends to play with.  Thoughts, and possibly volunteers?

There's only one person doing 90% of our reviews lately, and that's Pundit. I'd be happy to send in stuff to a coordinated review staff! I've had a poor rate of return - in number of reviews per game sent out - lately. The reviews that have been actually written have been great.

I'd be willing to help out or head up a review staff here.

I've not been doing much reviewing lately but I'd be up for some regularly posted reviews.

I'd like the site to have a policy on the site, if a review staff were to be in place, that all submitted products get reviewed within a month. That said, it might require turning down products from time to time to make sure that all reviews are completed in a month.

It would also be good to come up with a list of general points that should be covered for every review and a rating system of some sort.

I like the direction you're thinking in, Mike.  Promised quality control.  Perhaps a feed or subscription (RPGReviews) so the reviews are sent out weekly or somesuch via email?  It'd be an interesting way for folks to keep up on new product.

If you took it, do you think you could get some decent volunteers going?

Finding other reviewers would be difficult or at least to find good reliable ones. All the ones I know are commited to other sites already or are involved in projects that won't allow them the time to do it.

We'd probably have to find some totally new people and that can take a while to sort out.

RPGPundit

Quote from: HinterWelt;225165Likewise.

Then you should send me some review material. I have the best reliability ratio around for print games (100% of what I receive, I review).

Listen, I'd be really interested in getting some on-site reviewers. But as has been pointed out, I've been doing 90% of the reviews on here. So really, who else can be counted on?
As of now, no one.

The way to change that isn't to say "you, you, you, and me" and make those people staff reviewers and then give them a bunch of free swag in the hopes that they'll post a review.  It has to go the other way around.

Mcrow, your idea is really good. I would quite like to have some staff reviewers; I would even like it if there was someone else co-ordinating that staff, and I'd have no reason to think you wouldn't be a good choice for co-ordinator.
But if you want that job, then I'd suggest that the first thing you have to do is show that you will be able to walk the walk.

Post some reviews. Anyone else who wants a position, had better do the same. Review games you already have, show your work, demonstrate to the publishers that:

a) you're capable of writing a review.
b) you're serious about reviewing so that they won't just give you a free product and then you'll disappear.

Anyone who was an OFFICIAL reviewer for theRPGsite would have to commit themselves to the same thing I commit myself to: a 100% review-rate.  That is, any product you get (or at least any print product) WILL recieve a review from you within a reasonable pre-determined length of time.

If you can do those two things, then you might be up for the job.

Right now I only have one RPG that I have not already written a review for and that's the new BRP book which I should be able to post by Wed evening.

One Horse Town

I have a few things that i could work on reviewing.

Spawn of Azathoth - CoC scenario
Vindication - d&d 3.5 scenario
City of the Spider Queen - d&d 3 scenario
Ordo Nobilis - Ars Magica supplement

I've got tonnes of others - but they've probably been reviewed to death.

Let me know what you need reviewed. My email is mcrow24 at yahoo dot com. PDF or print whichever is easier for you.

As Pundit says, I will review anything you send to me and I will do it within a month (probably a week at the moment).
