SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hey, tech guys, I'm getting ghost pages

Yup. You know the little boxy thingie down to your right that shows you the number of page you're in on the thread? Well, a few times now since yesterday I've noticed it says, for example, 1 - 2 - 3, and if I'm in the second one, then clicking in the little "3" just takes me back to the top of the same page (the second). It isn't really a problem, because it seems that in those cases there's actually no page 3 (I've tried writing the addie directly on the address bar, it goes back to "2" as well), but I thought maybe you'd like to know. OK, whatever, sorry for bothering.

Could you give a link to a thread where the issue occurs?

That's common in thread that have posts that are ignored or a user is in coventry. It counts the invisible posts to calculate page numbers, so sometimes they are off. Don't worry about it.

SunBoy

Ok... but I haven't got people on my ignore list (I find crappy posts amusing)... but since I haven't got a clue about what a user in coventry is, then I'll just stop worrying. Thanks.

Spammers and such get put in Coventry, which means that their posts don't show up for you.

I've noticed it too, in at least three or four threads. Are there really that many spammers/ne'er do wells/people being sent to Coventry? In which case, who are they? We demand ANSWERS.

As he said, it's Coventry.

Spammers get placed in a special user group, where they can read and post freely all across the board, but none of us can see anything they post.  Sometimes though, it'll still flag a thread as having new posts, even though that new post is from a spammer we can't otherwise see.

I have a theory this only happens when it's a new spammer freshly added after already posting outside of Coventry, but I'm not a tech guy and I don't know how it really works, just seems to mesh with the way it appears.

This happened recently with my WoW D6 thread, where a spammer posted to it, but was in Coventry so I couldn't see the post, leaving my thread perpetually stuck as new posts until I posted something to it to balance out the unreadable post.

This whole coventry thing seems to be an afterthought in the design of the board system, so there are bound to be some problems. Perhaps when the software is rewritten from the ground up (to not be a memory and processor hog), they'll make coventry a core component. Until then, we're stuck with it the way it is.

Galeros

Yeah, I was getting this too. Good to know the problem is not on my end.:)
