SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Feature idea

I don't know how hard it would be for you to do or if you even think it is worthwhile, but allow a whisper type feature in threads.  You can make a post visible only to certain users so that a private side conversation can occur in-line with the rest of the thread.
I think it would be great outside of pbp but in pbp forums it would be especially useful.
  1. A robot may not harm a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
   2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
   3. A robot must protect its own existence, as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I think that's called "private messaging."

;)  yes, I do know what you mean, and it might be a neet feature, but it strikes me as being a very difficult thing to implement, if nothing else.

I'm not so sure that it would be that difficult.  The ability to keep it in-line helps keep the context viable. :)

We can immediately see the possibilities for PBP play with this feature.  It has many obvious uses there.

We are less sure how this would be useful for regular threads.  We just don't see the usefulness there.

Ooh I didn't think of this.  I retract my statements in this specific case. :)

Oh come on, it'd be great!  You could throw in snide insults that the target couldn't see.  You could form cliques so that only those within your group of cronies can see what you write.  You could mock another user's posts for your friends.  The possibilities are boundless!

It would be an excellent drama escalation tool.

You are right. And I am too because it was funny, to me at least.

Personally I think that if it's not insulting or funny enough to be said to all of us then it shouldn't be said at all.
