SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

EN World Status Update

At this time I'm uploading a snapshot I made on December 29th. As far as is known that was the last time the database was backed up. :brood:

After the upload completes (at or around 6 AM EST) I'll need to configure it to get the review section to work properly.  Then I have the lovely fun of rebuilding the search index (the snapshot having been taken before the index was recompiled).

Hopefully EN World will be back up in some form by the morning and will be up as recovered as she can be within a week.

As to the Gamestore - I didn't write the code that drives that but as far as I can tell it uses it's own database so with luck this crash won't affect it.

After 1 hour of uploading my computer has set a new estimate on upload time - 16 1/2 hours :(

Hold on folks, this will take awhile.

I just hope most storyhour writers have their updates on their boards.

I was thinking that five months is is going to be a lot of game time to make up in a Play by Post game...

There was a rift? I never noticed.

Five months? Wow, that will hurt all PbPs games :(

Pooka is a friggin' hero.

And by 'hero', I mean "someone who is going extraordinarily out of his way to do difficult and time-consuming things to help another site that really needs it.

I'm humbled, and deeply appreciative.

Holy shit! It's Piratecat. He lives!

Classy move, Pooka.

Hopefully all of the "my messageboard can beat up your messageboard" schoolyard crap is behind us now.

And a little downtime over there does give folks some time to take a look at what you have set up here.

Maybe this town is big enough for the both of us.

At least in my case, I've got all of the updates to my pair of SHs intact and each parsed by week, so it'll just take some time to repost them once the SH forum is back up. I'll regret losing months of feedback on them, but it's better than it could have been.

I suspect that we'll be losing a bunch of SHs that had slow starts, or abortive starts, in the last five months. I hope I'm wrong however.

And bless you Pooka. You are indeed very cool.

What he said.

This is so amazingly cool of you, Pooka.  Thank you.

And I gotta ask ... What about the Circus?  If it's just gone, and we have to start all over, I may just krai irl.

Ragnarok N Roll

Honestly, what is the deal with Enworld in that it goes down, is slow, has issues, all the time?

Is it the ISP? The server? What? I'm always close to getting a membership and shit like this happens and I'm always thankful I don't.

Good to see you around PC. :)
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.

I strongly recommend using Google to try to find copies of any missing threads. I found most of the ones I was worried about in Google's cache.

I would assume it's just the massive amount of people hitting it every day.  That's the price of fame. :)

Echohawk has a good suggestion, and once this is all resolved I think I'll make a habit of downloading my current game threads on a weekly basis or so.
