The recent rebanning of mythusmage from RPGnet brought his return to the shores of theRPGsite.  I have made no bones about my distaste for this individual and his views, which to my reading amount to the advocacy of sexual activity with children, or for the topic ban which he has repeatedly used as a tool to try and pretend those views were never expressed, going so far as calling me a liar in the most recent thread since his return.

In my anger over that charge, and Pundit's apparent support of it both in his statement following and the locking of that thread, I made something of a hasty accusation.  Having dug into the forum archives in an attempt to find supporting evidence of his past behavior, I discovered that a lot of that behavior, including the thread that earned him his topic ban, had been deleted.  

My distaste for people of mythus' ilk and anger at having been falsely accused of dishonesty lead me to make a rash conclusion, that for reasons unknown to me Pundit was somehow complicit in concealing a past we all know happened.  I decided to leave the board and in parting leave behind a disclaimer on my posts that charged the site with concealing its history to protect a pedophile, with the intent of making it clear I didn't condone such actions.

Recent information and the entreaty of people I deeply respect however, makes it clear I made a hasty and far too uncharitable judgement, and for that I wish to apologize.  It now appears in light of morning's calm that I jumped to a rather extreme conclusion, and in the process made an unfair and inaccurate accusation.

So I am sorry for that.  Pundit was simply trying to protect the site from legal implications, and while the situation looked bad, it was one of those cases that merely looked bad.  Having past banned people for lesser defenses of pedophilia than mythus', I really had no grounds to assume that he would protect one now, and for that I'm sorry.  

Pedophilia is an issue that has in the past touched my family, and I have nothing less than absolute contempt for those who would defend it and presume to moralize against others on such grounds. I'm not going to pretend that what mythus has said didn't happen, and I'm not going to pretend not to be disgusted by him, but I am going to trust that the moderation of this site will find a way to do the right thing while still being in keeping with the principles of free speech as unrestrained as is reasonable to expect.  

So no, theRPGsite and theRPGPundit did not intentionally seek to protect and conceal the actions of a pedophile, and I apologize for suggesting that they did.
