So, it came to pass that I'll be running a game at a mini-con later this year, and have to decide on the system and adventure by the end of this week. I've been thinking of cooking something up for WEG's old Ghostbusters (or G. International). Haven't run or played it before, but it's really just an early version of D6, which is something I'm familiar with.
Now the big question I'm still deliberating is: how many players does it play well with? It's a small con with only a few games but a decent-sized audience, so I don't want to restrict my game to only 4-5 people. How would the game play with 6-8, does anyone have any experience with it?
The better question is, "How are you going to entertain 8 people for 3-4 hours?"
Ghost Busters is pretty investigation heavy. At least that's what I'd be expecting. Can you come up with enough stuff happening so that 7 of the 8 people aren't just sitting there?
I guess you could make some kind of hotel dungeon full of ghosts.
The question I'd ask myself is do you want to run a good game for 4 or 5 people or a crappy game for 7 or 8 people?
I'd max the table at 5. Its a comedy / investigation game and the less is more theory works well with GB.

A good question. Last year, I've ran a similarly investigative game in a different system, and I think that went off pretty well.

Which I think in turns leads to the question: "Is it really a XOR (exclusive OR) question? Assuming the story/mystery is good, is it impossible to make the game good for 7-8?

See, that's the kind of thing I was thinking about. I mean, the rulebooks give me the impression that it's meant to be for a smaller group. Might ditch the original idea for something altogether different with a different system, possibly
The game is real simple, and the play is fun. for the original GB, I'd say 4 players max and for an adventure, maybe take a look at the GB video game that recently came out and snag a mission or two from that, just add more detail to it.
for GBI, you can have a lot of players. My former group had 8, we split up into two different GB teams investigating the same haunting it was loads of fun.
