SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

This is how you respond to Cancel Culture.

This is a statement from Trader Joes.  No defensiveness, no arguing, no apologies.  Just direct and clear.

QuoteTo Our Valued Customers:

In light of recent feedback and attention we've received about our product naming, we have some things we'd like to say to clarify our approach.

A few weeks ago, an online petition was launched calling on us to "remove racist packaging from [our] products." Following were inaccurate reports that the petition prompted us to take action. We want to be clear: we disagree that any of these labels are racist. We do not make decisions based on petitions.

We make decisions based on what customers purchase, as well as the feedback we receive from our customers and Crew Members. If we feel there is need for change, we do not hesitate to take action.

Decades ago, our Buying Team started using product names, like Trader Giotto's, Trader José's, Trader Ming's, etc. We thought then--and still do--that this naming of products could be fun and show appreciation for other cultures. For example, we named our Mexican beer "Trader José Premium" and a couple guacamole products are called "Avocado's Number" in a kitschy reference to a mathematical theory.  These products have been really popular with our customers, including some budding mathematicians.

We constantly reevaluate what we are doing to ensure it makes sense for our business and aligns with customers' expectations. A couple years ago we asked our Buying Team to review all our products to see if we needed to update any older packages, and also see if the associated brands developed years ago needed to be refreshed. We found that some of the older names or products just weren't connecting or selling very well; so, they were discontinued. It's kind of what we do.

Recently we have heard from many customers reaffirming that these name variations are largely viewed in exactly the way they were intended*--as an attempt to have fun with our product marketing. We continue our ongoing evaluation, and those products that resonate with our customers and sell well will remain on our shelves.

Trader Joe's has been a unique, fun and neighborly place to shop for over 50 years. We look forward to taking care of our wonderful customers for many future decades.

Good for them! It's nice to see some of these big name companies tell the woke mob "Nope".
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Some important points:

This is NOT NEW. Every business that sells things does this. You crunch the numbers during a specific timeframe, and stuff that's not selling gets discounted and discontinued.

I'm glad Trader Joe's is reading the tea leaves right and is backing off from wokedom.

This, in the wake of GOYA and Red Bull. I'm hopeful that we've turned a corner in the corporate kowtowing.

I think we will at least see which corps where doing it for money and which where doing it for ideological reasons.

True.

Where would "protective camouflage" fall in that model?

I am new here but have to talk about my frustration with the NBA and their insane level of woke.

I have been watching the NBA since 1990. When younger, playing ball was also one of my favorite pastimes. I knew they were doing the jersey thing but wasn't prepared for the onslaught of ludicrous coach and announcer commentary and the commercials on top of it.

A bunch of rich multi-millionaires who get paid to throw a ball around has to be peak virtue signalling.

I'm not sure I will be able to cope with the endless preaching. The worst was the commercial for the coach's association which started with "We know racism is everywhere."
I would cut the cable completely but my wife won't go along with that. But I guess I really cannot continue watching my favorite sport. The endless preaching from a false narrative is looking unbearable. I could cope with the jerseys but not all the rest. It will be interesting to see if they get punished by the fan spending in the wake of this.

Dude, we already do. Just look at how many corporations were claiming that their products were environmentally safe just a few years ago. Those will be the same ones who use pop culture ideology as a marketing ploy.

Admittedly, some are using it as a shield because they don't want the Antifa or BLM brown shirts sent to their corporate HQs.
"Meh."
