SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Why it has to be Free Speech, Every Time

Quote from: Will;812581Oh fucking please.

Extortion is used to describe the mafia threatening to shoot your parents if you don't give them a cut of your business.

Applying it to a minor customer of yours making an off the cuff remark threatening to think about pulling their business is nowhere in the same fucking league.

Shine on, you crazy diamond.
"Meh."

Quote from: soviet;812583It seems to me that things worked out for the best all round. You got all the attention you wanted without anyone else having to suffer through your product.

He'll be here all week folks! Don't forget to tip your servers!
"Meh."

Quote from: RPGPundit;812330If EH makes OBS more money than Desborough's products do, then EH had leverage.

Since OBS lists stuff as Copper / Silver / Gold sellers, it would be interesting to see how many EH products vs. GRIM products exist with coin badges to determine some sense of financial proportion.

Quote from: GRIM;812322It was extortion.

The "problem" with Free Speech is that it cuts every direction. You have the right to express your ideas via your creations and others have the right to call for boycott of your creations.

While I absolutely don't agree with boycott of your games, I can't complain about others people's right to use their Free Speech to boycott, even though TO ME boycotts often seem like censorship tools.

BUT you got a GREAT marketing opportunity. Have you seen those ads for the "Medical Secret that Doctor's DON'T want you to know!" that often appear as spam?

You have the BANNED game THEY don't want us to play. Run with that and make some cash. Seriously, OBS gave you a gift. Remember when SJG got raided by the FBI? You have a great opportunity to flip the script and market your game.

Better run fast though. The GG thing is running out of steam and another "world shaking scandal" is around the corner.

Quote from: GRIM;812322The GG game was meant to just be a bit of fun and perhaps to cool things down a bit through humour. I forgot that so many people had no sense of humour.

Humor is personal. There are several mega-hit sitcoms that just confuse me why they have such a following and such success (I don't enjoy Seinfeld, Parks & Rec, or Everyone Loves Raymond). I have a sense of humor, just not one that aligns with those particular shows.

Go sell some Banned Collector's Editions!!! Buy an extra one and keep it in shrinkwrap! Way more collectible than Pogs! :)

Boycotts are the opposite of censorship because they are voluntary at the individual level and don't keep anyone from being able to exercise their speech.
