Orange County is traditionally very red, even though it flipped for Hillary in 2016, and Biden in 2020, so a strong vein of Trump support in the middle of LA isn't that surprising. And even Vox admits that a lot of Vietnamese-Americans favor Trump:
https://www.vox.com/first-person/2020/10/30/21540263/vietnamese-american-support-trump-2020

While California overall remains deep blue, this election was a strong repudiation of the progressives and unions. Three state-wide ballot measures went against them, including a measure that would have allowed racial discrimination in hiring and college admissions, another that would have removed a cap on how high property taxes can go, and a third that would have turned gig workers into employees and resulted in companies like Uber and Instacart leaving the state.

The strongest repudiation I think I have seen of California is what appears to be the rate of Uhauls leaving the state.   I wonder where their tax base will be in 10 years?

San Francisco might be worth keeping an eye on, they just approved a bunch of tax hikes, and were the only area in the state that favored increasing rent control. That'll drive even more people away, on top of those who already fled due to covid, or had become disenchanted by the masses of homeless, crime, and filth. Without some course corrections, I could easily see that turning into a fast decline.

It sure seems like a fast decline now, what we have seen the past 10 years.  It looks to me like it is headed towards turning the graph from exponential decline to a linear one, straight down.

Supposedly, a bill is being kicked around to continue taxing people even after they leave California, or to tax assets that are removed. Grain of salt, though.

Which I guess freefall is still technically exponential, it will just look like a line straight down

I wonder if they realize that even talking about stuff like that is going to make people on the fence go ahead and pull the trigger on leaving?

Greetings!

I watched this video, and several other videos I have of Vietnamese Americans celebrating President Trump. I think their patriotism, loyalty, and commitment is awesome!

It makes me smile when they sometimes speak and butcher their English. I love it. The crazy accent, the mixing the English speech with the crazy sounding Vietnamese. So awesome. I wish I could understand Vietnamese. I have some friends that are Vietnamese Americans. One of my girls I used to visit for work every week, she was such a sweetheart. Beautiful Vietnamese girl. She would make me lunch when I came by. She had the crazy accent too. Such a smiling, happy, positive and wonderful person. I also remember even then, many Vietnamese Americans I talked to and associated with were very strong supporters of President Trump. They hate the Liberals, the fucking Socialists and Communists.

I find it so ironic that all of these Vietnamese Americans, either immigrants from Vietnam or children of immigrants from Vietnam--a Communist country--so few of them support anything "Socialist". I've seen them get damn near violent with members of their own neighborhood--some business owner planted a Communist North Vietnamese flag out in front of his business. He was protested against, riots, and his business was shut down within a week. He was lucky the Vietnamese Americans didn't string him up and hang him. Nonetheless, all the stupid white Liberals love Socialism, and Communism, and think it's all just sweetness and light. But people that have actually directly experienced it or have direct contact with such systems through their family--they don't want anything remotely to do with Socialism. Imagine that? But the smug fucking Liberals somehow know better.

Looking at the Vietnamese Americans exuberant support for President Trump, I see so very many women. I thought President Trump is a misogynist?

As mentioned earlier, all of these Vietnamese Americans are immigrants or the children of immigrants. I thought--according to the Democrats--that President Trump is a horrible Xenophobe that hates immigrants? Somehow, if Trump hated immigrants, doesn't it seem strange that so many Vietnamese Americans support him?

The Democrats have told me non-stop that President Trump is a white supremacist, and a racist! REEEEEE!!!--seeing this video though, with all of these laughing, passionate Vietnamese Americans celebrating President Trump--Vietnamese people are not white. They are Asian. And often darker skinned Asians at that. Not like some super-pale skinned Japanese or northern Chinese. *laughing* Didn't the Vietnamese Americans get the memo that Trump is a terrible, evil racist that hates non-whites?

I also know a Vietnamese American girl for several years that works in a donut shop. She used to hook me up with a ham and cheese croissant and a couple of donuts and a cappuccino on many mornings, every week when I lived in Southern California. She hated Communists, Socialists, Liberals, Democrats. She is a staunch supporter of President Trump, and also a strong Conservative. Fucking awesome people. I love the Vietnamese Americans. They are so often very patriotic, very conservative, and even their teenagers see the Liberal Democrats as being fucking idiots. Amazing. *Laughing*

Takeaway: Vietnamese Americans can be dumbasses, too, just like any other ethnic group. Big revelation.

The bulk of Vietnamese-Americans are those who fled their own country, so they include the tail end of those within Vietnam who are most anti-communist. So I don't find it surprising or ironic that they are very opposed to "socialist". On the other hand, South Koreans fought off communism successfully. Korean-Americans are essentially all from South Korea, where the government was largely right-wing through the 1990s, and Korean-Americans tend to be more liberal. According to one Asian-American survey, Trump support goes like:

Chinese-American:  20% Trump
Japanese-American:  24% Trump
Korean-American:  26% Trump
Indian-American:  28% Trump
Filipino-American:  34% Trump
Vietnamese-American:  48% Trump

Make of it what you will.

Regarding California:

San Francisco might be worth keeping an eye on, they just approved a bunch of tax hikes, and were the only area in the state that favored increasing rent control. That'll drive even more people away, on top of those who already fled due to covid, or had become disenchanted by the masses of homeless, crime, and filth. Without some course corrections, I could easily see that turning into a fast decline.

Overwhelmingly, what drives people away from the Bay Area is the enormous cost of housing. Too many people have moved here and they're willing to pay a huge amount for housing - and new housing hasn't been built enough to correct for that, hampered by restricted development. Regarding other reasons - San Francisco has a very low covid-19 rate currently, and they are below average in crime for a city their size - significantly less than Dallas or Houston, for example. So I don't think those are major factors.

There is a current exodus, and it seems to be driven by being allowed to work from home. Once workers can work from anywhere, many are moving out of the high-cost Bay Area housing to cheaper rates. The high housing costs are primarily a market result of California being considered highly desirable, though. If people move out, then prices will drop and the market will correct.

Orange County is traditionally very red, even though it flipped for Hillary in 2016, and Biden in 2020, so a strong vein of Trump support in the middle of LA isn't that surprising. And even Vox admits that a lot of Vietnamese-Americans favor Trump:

I think people might be reading too much into the propositions here. For example, I voted against the affirmative action prop 16, which I don't consider an anti-progressive vote, but just because it's a bad idea. I know of a number of other people who consider themselves progressive who voted similarly. I'd say California remains strongly Democrat, and in the progressive camp for LGBT issues and environmental issues, but less so for a number of economic issues. I'll buy that Prop 22's defeat is anti-union, for example.

I love the equation of "patriotism" and election denial. Our sitting President is seemingly attempting a coup and sedition, and that is somehow patriotic. Rather, I think patriotism ("Merica!") is a better stand-in for dumbassery and bias. Such self-proclaimed patriots eschew all reason and adherence to the democratic process in favor of declaring themselves crusaders for truth and liberty. It is quite sad, really.

One other. I find it amusing and rather pathetic how Republicans virtue signal every time a non-white person votes GOP. "Look, we have black friends too!"

Greetings!

I think it is great when non-white minorities break away from the cock-sucking Democratic plantation and vote CONSERVATIVE. The whiny bitch Liberals cry so many tears when minorities refuse to swallow their fucking socialist jello.

That is something that should always be celebrated. Democrats and Liberalism in general are full of pathetic children that have been brainwashed by Marxism.

In this election, something like 20% of black Americans voted for Trump, and 35% of Latinos voted for Trump, and in general, more minorities voted for Trump than have ever voted for a Republican candidate in history.

The Democrat stranglehold on minority voters is steadily and quickly eroding. Such a beautiful thing to see!

It's true that the Bay Area is highly desirable. High paying tech jobs, and a culture that attracts a lot of people -- and I'm using culture to refer to both the arts and to the politics; people go there for things to do and to be around people like them.

But it's not true that the housing costs are high just because it's a desirable area. San Francisco's market has been well studied by economists, and the housing costs are completely out of line with other comparable areas, even when controlled for wages, population density, and other factors. The reasons are regulatory, including open space laws, height restrictions, and NIMBY zoning that reduces the number of places where cheap housing units can be built, and price controls along with many other regulatory burdens that disproportionately affect builders and landlords of affordable housing. They combine to make low cost housing an extremely risky venture, driving potential builders and landlords out of the market.

The 59.7% to 40.3% rejection of allowing additional rent control by local governments is a positive sign, but it's just avoiding additional damage, rather than trying to heal the self-inflicted wound.
