If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Our sitting President is seemingly attempting a coup and sedition, and that is somehow patriotic.

This word, coup, I don't think it means what you think it means. Or did Bush also do a seditious coup in 2000? He was literally Hitler too, back in his day.

Yes, of course, Hawkwing. Anyone that doesn't suck down the Communist jello is a NAZI! REEEE!

Now, AOC, Jake Tapper, and many other fine Democrats want to compile lists of Conservatives that have supported President Trump, so that they can be punished for wrongthink.

Fucking tyrants and traitors. Such good, nice Democrats.

I'm thinking you don't really understand what a Communist actually is. I can tell you that it isn't "anyone who isn't a Conservative." It also isn't "anyone on the left."

Quit with the hyperbole.

My buddy dated a Vietnamese girl in college (and the idiot should've married her).

She had a very thick accent....from Mississippi.

Her parents had assisted in the US war effort and were part of the refugees who fled post-war to the USA and somehow, wound up in the deep south. Of course, her family opened up a "Chinese restaurant" that was a big hit and her family's raging patriotism made them well loved.

But since everyone she knew (friends, teachers, neighbors) all spoke English with a thick Southern accent, that's exactly how she learned to speak English.

As for the Vietnamese vote, it's like the Slav vote, just like the Cuban and Venezuelan vote. And its no surprise anti-Communist immigrants are so pro-2A.  Those of us from immigrant families who know how much psychotic harm was done to our own extended families by communism and thus, we can smell the reek off Biden's handlers.

One other. I find it amusing and rather pathetic how Republicans virtue signal every time a non-white person votes GOP. "Look, we have black friends too!"

I'm amused that the Democrats can't seem to figure out why they're driving all the minority voters away.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

*Laughing* That's right, Ratman!

Mercurious is merely clinging to Democrat propaganda. The fact that in the past so many minorities voted Democrat was mostly due to propaganda, and remains so to this day. Propaganda and brainwashing. The whole "well, I have black friends, too!" What? So why the fuck do Liberal Democrats always attempt to virtue signal about how fucking diverse they are? *laughing*

It's awesome to see so many different people embrace Conservatism--and it's especially enjoyable, not as some kind of virtue signal, as Mercurious suggests--but because the reality is so different from the jello propaganda that the Democrats like to brainwash everyone with. Yeah, it is pure joy to see people become educated, truly empowered, and embrace freedom--and refuse to swallow Democrat propaganda and Socialist fucking jello.

My girlfriend's parents are Vietnamese. They fled Vietnam on a little boat and waited out in the ocean until a larger vessel picked them up. They support Trump and in general are pretty traditional Catholics.

My girlfriend though is the opposite: raised in the Bay Area, a graduate from UC Santa Cruz, disinterested in religion, strongly progressive with leanings towards socialist principles, a supporter of BLM (we got into a fight over it way back when the protests first started. She was upset about it being "open season on black men" and I was looking up the actual number of shootings. That didn't go over well lol).

Anyway, point is, if you're conservative and want your kids to hold the same values as you, don't send them to a UC in California.

Edit: But she's also sweet and caring and seems to accept my stubbornly traditional ideas in general, so I guess her parents did something right. :P

Overwhelmingly, what drives people away from the Bay Area is the enormous cost of housing. Too many people have moved here and they're willing to pay a huge amount for housing - and new housing hasn't been built enough to correct for that, hampered by restricted development. Regarding other reasons - San Francisco has a very low covid-19 rate currently, and they are below average in crime for a city their size - significantly less than Dallas or Houston, for example. So I don't think those are major factors.

There is a current exodus, and it seems to be driven by being allowed to work from home. Once workers can work from anywhere, many are moving out of the high-cost Bay Area housing to cheaper rates. The high housing costs are primarily a market result of California being considered highly desirable, though. If people move out, then prices will drop and the market will correct.
It's true that the Bay Area is highly desirable. High paying tech jobs, and a culture that attracts a lot of people -- and I'm using culture to refer to both the arts and to the politics; people go there for things to do and to be around people like them.

But it's not true that the housing costs are high just because it's a desirable area. San Francisco's market has been well studied by economists, and the housing costs are completely out of line with other comparable areas, even when controlled for wages, population density, and other factors. The reasons are regulatory, including open space laws, height restrictions, and NIMBY zoning that reduces the number of places where cheap housing units can be built, and price controls along with many other regulatory burdens that disproportionately affect builders and landlords of affordable housing. They combine to make low cost housing an extremely risky venture, driving potential builders and landlords out of the market.

The 59.7% to 40.3% rejection of allowing additional rent control by local governments is a positive sign, but it's just avoiding additional damage, rather than trying to heal the self-inflicted wound.

Just to briefly follow up -- I agree about this. Zoning restrictions and similar are important part of restricting development that has a pronounced effect on housing prices. (I did say "primarily" market rather than "solely" market.) Also, I agree that the rejection of local rent control was good. But that's still very different than the narrative of residents fleeing because things are too liberal or because of crime.

I didn't say that, so it's not relevant. What I said is that the results of the ballot initiatives can be construed as a rejection of progressivism (and unions), without any mention of departure. And separately listed crime as one of the things that have been making people disenchanted. I didn't say it was a primary reason why people are leaving, much less fleeing.

I'm tired of this whole "narrative" tactic. Many people don't seem to reply to what other people say, anymore. Instead, they have this pre-existing narrative in their head, and address that using other posters as proxies. It's a step beyond simple strawmanning, because it doesn't seem to be used simply as a method to avoid an issue. Instead, it appears that people are so fixated on the culture war that literally anything anyone else says has to be warped to fit into some grand Hero Quest that's overlaid on the real world.

No.

If you can't take the heat get the fuck out of the Kitchen.

After how many years of Trump supporters = Nazi, from the left and we are supposed to just lay down and take it?

The hell with that shit.

This is a knife fight in the gutter, and the dialectical "high ground" can go fuck itself along with its precious bowtie-conservative "principles".

Nobody cares anymore about some liberal commie pinko-snowflake diaper-babies feelings about our rhetoric.

Fuck your feelings.

The DNC socialists stole the election from God-Emperor Trump on live tv for the world to see.

And the continual Gaslighting lies and denials by the lefts media shills will not make us agree that there are five lights.

The Election fraud was massive. And more evidence of this treason comes to light every day.

My advice to you is to stock up on soy milk, grab you favorite teddy bear, stay close to your safe space, and prepare yourself:

Epstein didn't kill himself.

Biden didn't win.

To the contrary, in my experience it's the progressives that constantly have to remind everyone that they have minority "friends".  The rest of us just have friends and don't need to tell the world because we don't give a shit about what others think.

I love the equation of "patriotism" and election denial. Our sitting President is seemingly attempting a coup and sedition, and that is somehow patriotic. Rather, I think patriotism ("Merica!") is a better stand-in for dumbassery and bias. Such self-proclaimed patriots eschew all reason and adherence to the democratic process in favor of declaring themselves crusaders for truth and liberty. It is quite sad, really.

Seriously, a coup? This is the most boneheaded, dishonest, contrarian take on someone exercising their legal rights I may have ever read. There is ample reason to question the results, and the real denial is you suggesting that there isn't. I wouldn't necessarily call it patriotic (patriotism has little to do with addressing your grievances in court.), but it certainly isn't sedition or a coup. You, too, should quit the histrionic hyperbole.
