SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Oliver Stone fits the OP of the thread and competes with Mel gibson in the career-killing race:

Had a look at that website, and the first thing (And I do mean "thing") I saw was ann coulter.

Wow, a website that hosts ann coulter sure is fair and balanced, right?

It was just a faux news splinter group, nothing but far right propaganda. Aftera glance I saw they would just auto hatchet anything that wasn't to the right of atilla the hun.

Cy, honey, the story is from the Sunday Times, just reposted on the site that Edward linked to. You'd know that if you weren't obsessed with attacking the messenger instead of reading the story. I mean, I know its hard to read so deeply into the right-wing agitprop to find out the attribution and all, so I can't blame you for not being able to wade through the first half of the first sentence to find that out. Thankfully, there are those of us willing to risk our sanity to find out the truth. Maybe you'll be that strong someday as well.

Bingo!

Cut off electricity and food for a week in the USA and we'll make Iraq's worst unrest look like a Victorian tea party.

Same basic story, different source. In this case the American Jewish Committee is condemning Stone and making a comment or two:

But yeah When I saw the earlier article I remembered the opening blog rant/thread start that Pundit posted here. Oliver Stone has been in the news recently for documentary film work in connection with Hugo Chavez.

Dude! this is excellent news! The way North America is going, all those three items will soon be quite rare and at a premium.

Shit, Big O and his Washington gang have already begun their first stage of destroying free internet acess; 40,000,000 of your citizens need a fucking stamp to be able to eat, and I guess cable TV is hard to get when your home has been foreclosed.

THIS IS THE BEST THREAD EVER:rotfl:

Lurker reporting in as disappointed Democrat:
I felt I voted for the lesser of 2 evils in 2008 - and remembered back then his support for militarism along the Af-Pak border.
On the other hand, the alternative was someone who thought war with Iran was a good idea...and let's not talk about his likely successor.

I'll go along with recent comments regarding the issues with concentrating power, whether government or corporate. Problem is, large numbers of people have historically required large institutions to keep them from anarchy. And there are a lot of people around nowadays.

I wasn't able to access the actual Sunday Times interview, though - it required a subscription.

It certainly seemed to me that the NewsBusters article is not actually a reproduction of the Times interview, but rather a commentary on that interview - pulling out selected quotes at times and at other times describing the interview in its own words.

Is there a place where the interview itself is available without a subscription?  I expect there will be plenty to damn Oliver Stone in the actual interview, but it would be fine to see.

Several sources have mentioned the paywall of the Sunday Times - that hasn't stopped those press sources from repeating what was said in the interview. The parent companies or owners of these other papers and networkd pay the fee automatically to see what the Times is saying.

Oliver Stone, late in the day had issued an apology for his remarks. Looks like either his publicist or lawyer had a talk with him. (or maybe a publicist?)

Man I hate the current level of discourse on anything in the US or the West in general.  We get everyone talking about how offensive what Stone said, and what kind of apology he is going to give, as well as all his dubious connections...but no one ever addresses the core question.

Is he right?  Is there anything to what he is saying?  Sure, he's probably full of shit, but does anyone even stop to think about what is actually being said anymore?

Celebrity A says X, Y group is offended, Celebrity A retracts X.
replace Celebrity A, X, and Y, then re-solve.

A lot of people toss out the buzzword "existential threat".  I think the only real existential threat to Western Democracy is corporate media run for profit.

This.  YouTube alone has plenty of viable outlets.  Reacquaint yourself with the old media discernment skills of yesteryear and start staking out your own media sources.  Learn to triangulate your sources to suss out the truth, and be wary of what narratives get pushed.
