This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

The Perfect Pet for Broken Generations
« on: September 20, 2021, 08:31:11 PM »
$733k at the time of this posting. It's a Tribble looking "AI pet with emotional capabilities". Phillip K. Dick predicted this many decades ago - future generations without relationship with real animals...or real humans.

"Perfect" pet for the broken. No need to interact except when you demand attention.

Is this surprising? Pets can be costly, and in our broken economy with no financial stability it's more difficult to care for a pet.

But as far as humans go- whenever I encounter some loudmouth Baby Boomer whining about lack of "community" I always tell them no fooling, Sherlock- what did they expect? In an increasingly hostile (especially if you're a white straight male) society where anyone and everyone can be a potential false accuser, enabler of the witch hunts, or willing to abandon someone because of an accusation becoming a loner becomes a matter of survival- just like during The Terror in the mourned-by-the-left Soviet Union.

Humans need something. And if this is all that's available, it will become "real" to them. Heck, sexual relationships are so broken thanks to feminism that "sexbots" are becoming THE thing for more and more men.

And some people wonder why I'm so grim at times.

It's better that some loner cuddle his electric furry sock than adopt, then abandon a real animal.

I was in dog rescue for decades. Trust me, the situation for pets has NOT improved; during the covid-19 outbreak there was a rash of adoptions but once it blows over watch what happens.

I feel sorry for such people that what amounts to a toy becomes something they become attached to. There are times I wish I would not wake up to deal with this world any longer.

That largely depends how you approach it. Getting things set up for a small dog will often cost you $300 + pet. After that, maintaining a pet can be very low cost, unless they’re unhealthy or one of those giant breeds.

My dogs will take their yearly vaccines including the rabies shot for less than $75. Grooming and bathing is done at home, my only expense is food, treats, pads which tend to last 2 months minimum.

Always thought about adopting, but hard to know what you’re getting into. Only adopt if you can afford the care. From German shepherds to Pomeranians they’re good company, and a lot of work. That’s why I often advise people, to only get a dog if they’re up to it. Lots of assholes give dogs away like toys, that scars the dog for life.
