SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

TBP, hungry to ban users, is banning users for off-site behavior.

I really miss the Tang of the early 2000s.  I learned an insane amount from people who were so very different from me.

That time is long since passed.

When they came for Gaza Echs, I knew it would only be a matter of time so I left.  I didn't scramble my credentials, suicide by Mod, or give a "Reason You Suck" speech on the way out, I just left.  I've seen some of the other bannings since then, and know I made the right call.

I still miss the community from back in the day.

I was active in The Pig and Whistle Society, their WoW guild, for a few years, and it was a great experience.  P and W had only two rules - don't be a dick, and pay it forward.

RPG.net would be a much better place if they had just those two same rules.

Exactly, when people are so lacking in self-awareness they can't see that they are exactly what they rail against.

I remember the P&W back in the day. I don't think many of them are still users over there.

Motorskills is post 221 with Tanka's rational and measured response coming a few posts later (225).

Thank you rgalex! That thread is a cornucopia of LoLz.

And KUDOS to Motorskills for attempting to be a moderate voice seeking common ground.

RPG.net was a decent forum back then.

Guzzling partisan poison will do that. That's why WE must remain a free speech forum where we defend the rights of those we oppose to speak.

We don't need to agree on anything, except the right to disagree.

Quote from: Faylar;1043390That's what happens when you are so firmly entrenched in your own echo chamber... you fail to see your own hypocrisy.

You know how to make an awesome exit. This was pure gold:

Quote from: FaylarBeing disrespectful or promoting hate speech is one thing, but getting infracted for discussing something uncomfortable is another thing altogether. Some of the posts here are controversial but simply do not allow for controversy in the replies, this is then mod enforced. Some of the mod comments are downright rude in tone.

This is not a welcoming forum for all at the moment, it is a safe space for a certain ideology, and a hostile space for those who don't share it. I say this from experience, and I am a very left leaning individual.

But not the snakes or spiders. They must be in spolier blocks.

Please, please, please tell me that's a joke.

THAT would be utterly insane, even for them.

I briefly logged in today on my account there.
I haven't logged in for at least a year (I think) until now and noted I have a couple of warnings posted to my PM by mods fairly recently from old posts over a year ago.
Fairly innocuous posts questioning the modding bias there.
Not particularly bothered though, I expect I'll get banned at some stage.

The sad thing is that rpgnet was so much fun back in the day.  It was wild, crazy, and hostile like a death world.  As I've said many times it was Darren Mclennan being given the authority to moderate the site that started the downhill run.  The problem is that he is really funny and really caustic and it set the tone for the place.  He's also very biased and polarized.  I don't really blame the moderators, it's a hard job.  I blame the owners.  I think Cessna is a decent enough guy, certainly a better admin than Kuma but he's also pretty burned out and sick of putting out fires.

I'm puzzled what the end goal is TBQH.

I poke in there every few months, look around and at that point am reminded why I don't post there. I wasn't there in the early days so I don't have much opinion other than how it exists now.

All that said I wonder how long before they start banning larger segments of users? They saying they aren't going to do that yet they are starting the process. And going after people for off board infractions? How can you do that without amateur sleuthing which they said they aren’t going to do, but apparently are??? Or are people informing for them? Point is this raises yet more questions. I don’t see how that’s sustainable.

I've also read the various admins explain how the staff is exhausted and worn out. Well, yeah because their stances are forcing the staff to put in that effort.

All in all it's their site, their rules but I can't help but wonder if in the long run if they, themselves are the ones causing the staff to burn out?

They absolutely are imo. Any aggressive action requires energy and they are being very aggressive. Most of the "we are burned out" is a ploy to garner sympathy. You will notice, wuthout fail, that after every one of those posts there are numerous "we appreciate you" and "its hard work "posts following it.
Its only reinforcement so they can carry on like the good soldiers they beleive themselves to be.
I dont doubt some actually are burned out. There are some good mods there... They have to deal with the bullshit fallout of their peers though.

That thread is hilarious. The mods are the cause of their own problems. Nothing has changed there.

But ultimately - this sums up my feelings.
