SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

It's an acronym that means various things, my favourite is "the bulging pimple", but which generally refers to another gaming forum, rpg.net.

Although to describe it as a gaming forum is generous; while gaming discussions do take place most of the posters there are very wary not to step on any number of landmines, political doctrines, or personalities.

Looking briefly over the trouble tickets subforum one can quickly see that a kind of stockholm syndrome has seized the place - posters are too busy not making any sudden movements around the mods to step back and ask themselves, "why in the blue christ am I putting up with this shit from these idiots?" I guess nostalgia keeps many there, it used to be a good site once.

"The big purple" = rpgnet

Used to be the best site for online rpg discussion but it was taken over by a group of wackos

AaronBrown99

Ahh I get it, thanks. I used to read there.

I stopped paying attention to their site when I was nearly banned for expressing my distaste for White Wolf's use of 'she' as the default generic pronoun, in defiance of hundreds of years of standard English usage.

That and their constant gushing glad-handing over how 'inclusive' they are for their dripping 'white knight' attitudes.

Thanks for the clarification!

Their best bet to get $ is probably to reach out to the trans-gender & trans-species groups and ask for donations...

The Great Purge is on its way. As soon as the funding ends, they'll proceed to ban any non-contributor.

If they just split the tangency side off into its own place and got some actual gamers in as the mods for the rpg sections i'd be happy to throw them a few bucks...but since they cant even offer a search option nor clear out the inactive members and a bunch of the none gaming trolls who infect the rpg sections i would rather they just die out and let an actual gaming forum take the domain name.

What involvement does Skotos have with rpgnet these days?

Géza Echs

I don't get it. With sufficient donations Shannon - who owns the place - and other staff will give one or more weeks of work to fixing up the site? Isn't that their job? How is that a reward for donations? It sounds like what they're supposed to be doing every single day.

If they're wise, their involvement is at arm's length. Then again, I don't see Skotos ads cropping up across the Internet like wildflowers anyway...

Hey, those non-gaming hookers and bricks of blow don't buy themselves, you know!

Of course, because some people are more equal than others!

Case in point... How long is it going to be before they're openly chanting the proclamations of Zardoz mixed with Orwell's "Animal Farm"?

Then again, why worry about it? Let the lemmings fall off their cliff. Much as I enjoy a good jab at TBP to let some bottled up pus out, all we really need to do is keep discussing RPGs in a somewhat civil but lively fashion here while they navel gaze and fap away to whatever it is that floats their boat that hour. Eventually someone in Skotos' management will realize what a money pit the forum is and kill it off or TBP will start to sink and take Skotos with it...

EDIT: Just as an addendum, I will personally laugh my ass off if the whole Kickstarter fails or if someone actually pulls an "Encik Farhan" or otherwise complains about their stretch goals or non-delivery of "the goods". I could stand to lose that weight anyways...

EDIT the 2nd: Looks like we know seven of the backers... So it's not a full 1/3 like I said... I stand by the sentiment of my previous post :P... "Awesome place" indeed...

Weird, anyone else getting a reloading glitch when they click that link? like the site cant seem to finish loading the page even though it's actually loaded?  maybe the sites really as fucked up as the members these days in which case maybe just kill it and be done with it.

I assume the point is that Shannon spends all his time working on the other Skotos products, which all have a subscription revenue stream. This funding drive will "allow" him to divert his time to RPGnet.

Nah they'll make it alright, it'll probably stretch to five or ten grand, it's been slowly creeping up day by day. I've been watching it for the last few days but didn't start a thread here as I didn't want to give it any publicity.

Have you seen their other products? The flagships are a collection of text based MUDs that would have been advanced back in 1992.

There are other Skotos projects? I thought RPG.net was it, except for maybe that one text-based HPL inspired MUD (that I could never get to work correctly enough to try playing, dang it).

Regardless, it seems weird for me that one of the outcomes of the fundraiser is that they do one standing aspect of their jobs, or assign more staff members to do one standing aspect of their jobs.

Which link? If you're referring to the RPGNet link, it's because it's behind the walls of Tangency, where the unregistered can't go. You have to log in to read it.

If you're referring to the kickstarter/Indiegogo link, it worked for me...
