SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

That's good and bad.  The upshot would have been 'deep enough pockets for a contingency suit'...

Anyone that would sue DTRPG (barring some sudden alignment shift on their part) is a fucking idiot

Quote from: Rincewind1;679508Mod sass as a bannable offence? Gee wiz, I wonder where he picked that one from. I am somewhat surprised nobody ever takes their arses to town for this, because there's nothing in the forums' guidelines in regards of showing moderators special respect, there is no rule of "Respect moderation above all else and address them properly".

People do call them on their shit from time to time, but the overlords just lock the thread and ban the person for "mod abuse" or "taking shots at the staff" or whatever nonsense they're calling it this week. They just make shit up on the spot to suit them.

I'd boycott Skotos, but I don't know WTH they make.

D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

That would depend on the validity of their claim, jurisdictional issues, and whether or not they were a 'public figure', among other things

Personally I could see someone doing it on principle,  if for no other reason than to shape future behavior.

C'mon, baby, don't be mad -- you're super special.  You're not just some quick fuck, it was a meaningful relationship, really.  I totally remember your name and, uh, your, um.  What color are your eyes again?  Sorry, I have to be honest, I still have no clue who the hell you are.

I'd make a crack about coming here to say things you'd get banned for over there, but we both know you'd never get banned over there either.

Yeah I guess there are theoretically good possible reasons for it. I guess the point I was trying to make is that a) they seem to be very firmly in the 'good guys' camp, and b) they are the foundation that allows a lot of people to publish RPGs and make money from it. Lose DTRPG and you lose a lot of different voices in this hobby, and not just on the storygames side of things.

Another RPG.net refugee here, and it sounds like for the same reasons.  I wasn't a prolific poster there but was on since early '04.  The last few years, though, it's changed ... there is no acceptable disagreement from the hivemind.  It's a pity, as I enjoyed some of the discussions and loved some of the stories that found their way to Tangency.  Geza's banning was a red flag, though, that ANY disagreement would no longer really be tolerated, and the Numenera mecha-succubus thread clinched it for me.

I'm not likely to post a ton, but I look forward to more engaging discussion (even if there are disagreements) than I've seen there.

Quote from: Rincewind1;679516Don't they? Could've sworn there was the whole WW - DTRPG - RPG.net ownership/business link discussed here.

There was a time when RPGnet had a business relationship with RPGnow back before the merger (and when RPGnow still stocked real physical product), and they currently have an 'affiliate relationship' with DTRPG (not to mention DTRPG advertises pretty prominently on RPGnet).

If people want this site to move away from being seen as just a shelter for people banned from other sites, shitting over mods from other sites every time they show their faces is probably not a great idea.

I don't remember FVB doing anything dodgy while he was a mod there.

Quote from: The Traveller;679512Ladril seemed to push a button or two. Anyway I find it remarkably easy to avoid threads I don't like by the expedient method of not reading them.

Just a thought.

Oh, no, I usually avoid them, but John H Frank started posting here, and he is one of the cooler people online (he's thanked at the end of Lies of Locke Lamora! How cool is that?)  So I got to reading, and then somebody said my name three times, and then I'm in the mirror with my eyes bleeding, and you know how it is.  Like I said, Wild Kratts was a repeat.

(PS: Truthfully, Wild Kratts was not a repeat.  I told a lie.  Today's episode was about Shadow: The Black Jaguar, and although I'd never seen it, I was just sniffing around John H. Frank's appearance here to see if he'd posted again.  I don't want somebody else with kids who watch Wild Kratts calling me on my bullshit and for me to be publicly shamed.  I mean, it's a 2013 episode, but it's not new, apparently.  Next new ep is on August 19 or so, and involves "Rattlesnake Crystals". Sorry to anybody who caught that.)

(PPS: I wasn't lying about the mirror and the eyes bleeding, sadly.  If you say my name three times, I really do have to appear, and it's hell on my schedule.   I'm like, right in the middle of dinner, and then *boom* I'm in some thirteen year old's mirror while her and her friends giggle, and they're like, "You're Bloody Mary?" and I'm like, "Eh, it's a living."  The real Bloody Mary retired seven years ago, she's in Port Lucie, Florida, bartending.  The economic downturn hurt everybody, she was underwater on her house, and she had to quit, said the whole "figment of undying hatred gig" didn't qualify for a refinance offer from Freddie Mac.)

For the record, I did not mean to say that you personally are a "White Wolf sycophant". Reading my post a second time, I understand how it may have come across that way, so apologies. The honest question was: "how many mods/ex-mods are actually authors for that company, and who are they?" That was the whole point of the post: I believe this "WW takeover of rpgnet" may be little more than a myth. I would like to be proven right/wrong.
