This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The message boards have been upgraded. Please log in to your existing account by clicking here. It will ask twice, so that it can properly update your password and login information. The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

If cops want to be the pawns of leftists and ignore their oath to their community and the Constitution, that's their choice, but I'm not going to be all "back the blue" when they won't have my back.

But conservatives will forgive anything. "They're just doing their job. They gotta choke on BLM's antics to put food on the table. They can't be expected to do their job without support of their chief." Blah, blah, blah.

Sorry, Nuremberg defense is still a NOPE.

I'm not anti-cop by any stretch, but if I've got to sleep in the bed I've made, so do they.
I've made similar remarks to cops. 'Time to decide what side you're on.'

Also, 'Just following orders doesn't sound any better in English than in the original German.'

The smart ones are quitting and moving to better jurisdictions, though.

Check the history of policing. The police aren't there to protect us from criminals. The police are there to protect criminals from us.

Then we have to change how cities are run Pat.  As long as the police commissioner is beholden to the mayor nothing will save the city when the mayor goes rogue.

Personally I think we need to do three branches.  City Sheriff, City Congress (District Representatives, City Council), and City Court Judges.  I think this is needed.

Interesting little fact.  In New York city it is the mayor that appoints the police commissioner.  That should explain why the police don't end the riots right there.  The police work for the benefit of the mayor and his friends.

That's arguably still better than the mayor being the police commissioner.  (cough)Portland(cough)Oregon(cough)

The worst part of this is that avenues of reprisal are VERY limited.

Aside from the usual sovereign immunity bullshit, the court cases of Riss vs NY and Warren vs DC established that the police do not have an obligation to protect individuals. Although I would seriously like to see that tested in the face of blatant civil disorder such as that displayed by BLM/Antifa rioting. It's one thing to acknowledge the police cannot protect everyone, all the time; it's another to blatantly abrogate their duty to keep the peace in a general sense.

And frankly, if you're fucking stupid enough to vote for these louses again (who, coincidentially, all seem to be Democrats), you deserve what happens. Good and hard.

So Proud Boys came up in the presidential debate. Virtually all the media seem to agree that they are racists, fascists etc. Nevermind the brown guy who is currently their leader.

But I wonder, what's the worst thing they have done? Calling themselves "chauvinists"?

To be specific, Biden brought them up when Trump asked them to give him a specific instance of white surpremacists to denounce.
I doubt Biden even knows who they are.

And it's a losing game for Trump, who has denounced white supremacy dozens of times since becoming president, and his critics constantly ignore that.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

You're talking about separation of powers, and your example is the classic legislative/judicial/executive split. Which is how cities are traditionally run, except the mayor is the executive not a sheriff. Are you saying the police force should be it's own thing, a fourth branch?

You're talking about rogue mayors, but that's not really what we're seeing. The mayors in the areas that are allowing rioters free reign are clearly reflecting the beliefs of the communities they represent. Portland's pretty hippy-dippy, after all. The disapproval comes from specific groups within those communities (like business owners), and from outsiders who think it's a shitty way to run things, and want someone to step in and take over and force those communities to meet their standards.

Don't you think those standards need to be met considering the rioters are burning, looting, and murdering?

EDIT: To specify.  I am not saying make these people God fearing farmers, or anything like that.  I am saying to stop the violence, theft, and property destruction.  These are pretty low standards to meet.

If you want to talk about whether those cities should be placed in receivership or something equivalent, that's a separate discussion. I'm just saying they're not rogue mayors. They're doing what the populace who elected them wanted them to do, which is a much more fundamental problem that just a couple politicians going off the rails.

"The Proud Boys having non-white members and leaders is PROOF they are white supremes." - MSM logic in action.

I didn't know much about the Proud Boys (kinda weak name IMO), but here's their offical website and how they describe themselves and who they want in their group.

https://proudboysusa.com/
https://officialproudboys.com/proud-boys/whoaretheproudboys/

I saw an interview with Enrique Tarrio and I'd WAAAAAAY rather be associated with Tarrio than Biden's buddy, Robert Byrd of the KKK (who of course, "denounced" the Klan when they weren't useful for his career).

Tarrio is like the Cuban immigrants my parent's knew in NYC back in the 70s. They don't take shit, they love their "Latin tempers" and they hate communism with a passion.

The Portland Police have been responding to antifa and other scumbags almost every night with no right wing folks around. Wheeler though tied their hands in regards to using tear gas.

What's funny is that Mayor Ted Wheeler is upset that the feds deputized many, allowing (when applicable) federal charges to be brought. The sad fact though is that Wheeler is running against someone that has referred to herself as the 'antifa candidate' and would turn management of the police over to a power grabbing nightmare Jo Ann Hardesty that accused the Portland Police of setting fires to cause riots. She claims to represent Black residents of Portland, yet many in the Black community are decrying any reduction in funding and the elimination of the gun violence unit of the police - because gun violence has skyrocketed in Portland.

All the excitement over the Proud Boys came from Governor Brown and cohort via the Multnomah County Democrats.
